The event was organized by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and attracted the attention of a total of 6,05,175 visitors.
As was seen with previous Auto Shows, the 2018 Auto Expo also attracted sports and Bollywood celebrities. Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Gautam Hambhir and RP Singh were seen launching some vehicles at the Auto Expo as were Bollywood superstars such as Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Gul Panag and Rahul Khanna.
2018 Auto Expo saw a total of 500 product displays from over 119 exhibitors. There were 53 Original Vehicle Manufacturers who displayed over 100 products. There were 21 new launches and 81 product unveilings besides 18 concepts that were on display. New entrants into India included Kia Motors, India Kawasaki Motors and Cleavland CycleWorks.
There were also a host of electric vehicles and hybrids displayed at the Expo especially from Tata Motors and Mahindra. These included the Hyundai’s Ioniq, Kona prototype, Tata Motors Tigor, Tiago, TaMo RaceMo EVs and Mahindra e-KUV100 NXT, e2O NXT, Udo and Atom EV concepts to name a few.
Special zone area attracted quite a bit of attention. These zones drew the attention of the younger set of audience with over 750 government school children being a part of the show. A Job Fair was also organized by Automotive Skills Development Council and SIAM with 136 jobs being offered to youngsters both in automation and in auto ancillary segments.
Dance, drama and quiz shows were also held and the 12th SIAM Styling and Design Conclave 2018 saw experts speaking on new and upcoming styles and designs in the automotive sector. As always, the vintage car pavilion also attracted a great deal of attention among viewers to the Expo.
Besides drawing a 6,05,175 footfalls, the 2018 Auto Expo also garnered attention on social media through every possible medium such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. There were over 1.5 lakh tweets on its official hashtag which further brought in over 4.5 billion impressions on Twitter in a span of 6 days. A mobile phone app was also available for users of Android and Apple offering details of ticketing, hall layout and exhibitors, etc.
