The next generation Fiat Punto is set for launch in international markets sometime in at the end of 2016 or early 2017.

Current gen Fiat Punto was first launched in 2005 and has not received any substantial update since then. The next generation 2018 Fiat Punto was spied testing in Brazil while spy images from tests being carried out in the US have also emerged.

Slated to be based on Fiat X6H platform that will also underpin the upcoming sub-Renegade SUV, new gen Fiat Punto could is expected to be launched in India sometime in 2018.

The new Punto will sit on a longer wheelbase though overall length will remain the same as seen on its current counterpart. A more premium dashboard, better upholstery and a steering wheel similar to that seen on the Fiat Tipo were evident on the model on test while central console sports only 4 buttons. HVAC controls and 5” UConnect infotainment system along with a freestanding display will also be making their way into the 2018 Fiat Punto.

Engine specifications could include a 1.4 liter GSE – Global Small Engine offering 100 hp power and a new 1.8 liter E.torq EVO engine borrowed from the Fiat Toro pickup truck while a 1.6 liter E-Torq petrol engine will also be on offer. These engines will be mated to manual and automatic transmission options. Safety features will include airbags, ABS and EBD.

Though launch in India is still some time away, expected price of the next generation Fiat Punto is slated at INR 5.5-9 lakh while it will compete with Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo.
