Scooter enthusiasts can look forward to some fun and exciting rides, as Honda has unveiled its new adventure scooter named X-ADV 150. Showcased at 2019 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Honda X-ADV 150 is based on its larger sibling, the 745 cc, twin-cylinder X-ADV scooter. However, off-roading capabilities for X-ADV 150 are fairly limited in comparison to its larger sibling that is designed to take on any terrain.
Adventure scooter segment is at a nascent stage in India, with just one product on sale – 150 cc Aprilia SR150. Honda 150cc adventure scooter dimensions are quite close to that of Aprilia SR150, measuring 1,950 mm in length, 763 mm in width and 1,153 mm in height.
Although Aprilia SR150 has the upper hand with its first mover advantage, competition is expected to intensify in this segment with launch of other adventure scooters from Yamaha, Piaggio, Vespa, and TVS.
Honda 150cc adventure scooter’s design looks quite similar to that of its bigger sibling. The adjustable windscreen, dual LED headlamps and large front apron are some of the common features shared by both scooters. However, X-ADV 150 does have its unique character lines and features that give it a distinctive profile. Tail section also looks impressive and adds to the scooter’s sporty character. The scooter comes with a large negative LCD instrument cluster that displays a wide variety of information.
Powering Honda X-ADV 150 is a 149.3 cc, 4-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder engine that generates max power of 14.7 hp at 8,500 rpm and max torque of 13.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Engine is mated to a V-matic transmission that sends power to the rear wheel. Suspension duties at the front are performed by standard, right side up telescopic forks, while the rear gets gas-charged Showa suspension.
Honda 150cc adventure scooter comes with 14-inch and 13-inch alloy wheels at the front and rear, respectively. Tyres used have block pattern, which indicates that X-ADV 150 is capable of handling mild trails. Braking duties are performed by single petal discs and both CBS and ABS options are available in Indonesia.
In the Indian market, Honda’s most powerful scooters are Activa 125 and Grazia 125. Honda may not have any immediate plans to launch adventure scooters in India, but if the segment starts to bloom, X-ADV 150 could become a possibility.
