The second generation Honda Amaze compact sedan, which made its global debut at the 2018 Auto Expo gets detailed as it heads towards official launch on 16th May. Specially developed for Indian markets at the Honda Asia Pacific R&D Center in Thailand, the new Honda Amaze will be available in four trim levels – Base E, S, V and VX.
Design – Compared to the old Amaze, the new 2018 Honda Amaze version is a completely different looking version. It borrows much of its exterior design from the Honda City and Civic.
2018 Amaze gets a distinctive front bonnet, a new grille design with chrome accents and sits on new 10 spoke alloy wheels in 14” and 15” depending on variants. Dimensions have also increased and the new Honda Amaze is 5mm longer at 3,995mm and 15mm wider at 1,695mm. Wheelbase is also 65mm longer at 2,470mm while height has been reduced by 5mm to 1,500mm.
Interiors – Interiors too have been changed completely. New Amaze comes with dual color scheme with added head, leg and shoulder room. Honda claims that the rear seat space is best in class.
Talking about features, 2018 Amaze gets Digipad 2.0, 7” touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This means, the system is even more advanced than the Honda City, which gets Digipad 1.0. Seats are also much more comfortable, in the front as well as at the back.
Engine Specifications – Though the engine options remains same, they have been retuned to offer much better fuel efficiency and performance. Old Amaze petrol engine delivered 88 PS and 109 Nm, new Amaze delivers 90 PS and 110 Nm. Mileage of old Amaze manual stood at 17.8 kmpl for manual variant and 18.1 kmpl for automatic variant. New Amaze petrol manual delivers 19.5 kmpl while CVT auto variant delivers 19 kmpl.
Diesel engine output remains same on both, the old as well as the new Amaze, which is 100 PS and 200 Nm. But, new Amaze diesel manual delivers 27.4 kmpl, as compared to old one’s 25.9 kmpl mileage. It now also gets a diesel CVT, which delivers 23.8 kmpl.
Price and Rivals – Though no pricing details of the new Amaze has been revealed as on date, it is expected that to be priced a bit over the price of Maruti Dzire, its main rival. Current Amaze is priced in the range of Rs 5.74 lakhs to Rs 8.65 lakhs. Expect new Amaze also to be priced in a very similar range.
Launch Date – Honda has already started accepting orders for the new Amaze compact sedan that is slated to launch in India on 16th May 2018.
