2018 Honda Brio shares platform with new Amaze – Rivals Maruti Swift

It was last year at the GIIAS in Indonesia that the Brio Concept made debut. Now, 1 year later, at the same show, the new gen Brio could make global debut in production ready format, reveals AutonetMagz. As per the report, the new Brio will be seen with sporty styling elements and features borrowed from RS Concept.

The new Honda Brio will measure similar to the concept, which is – 3,610mm in length, 1,680mm in width and 1,500mm in height. It will sit on a 2,345mm long wheelbase. Weight will be at 920 kgs, a decrease of around 30-40 kgs as the new Brio will be sharing the lightweight platform with the new Amaze.

In terms of design, the new Brio will get larger doors, larger rear overhangs, more spacious luggage section, new alloy wheels, projector headlamps with LED strips and a full tailgate. Interiors will also boast of more premium features with an upmarket dashboard, 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and more comfortable seating. It will be seen with more safety features among which will be start/stop button with keyless entry and cruise control.

Speaking about engine options, the new Brio will get the same set of petrol and diesel engine options seen on the current Amaze sedan on sale in India. Both cars not only share platforms, but will also parts as well as styling.

Powering the new Brio could be a 1.2 liter i-VTEC petrol engine offering 89 bhp power and 109 Nm torque. Diesel engine will be in the form of a 1.5 liter mill generating 100 PS and 200 Nm. Transmission options on offer could be manual 5 speed as well as CVT.

Expect the car to be launched in India next year. Here it will be priced in the range of Rs 4.5 lakhs to Rs 7.5 lakhs. Once launched, it will compete with Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Tata Tiago.
