2018 Honda Civic, CRV 1.6 diesel test production starts ahead of launch

10th gen Honda Civic and 5th gen Honda CR-V both are scheduled for launch in India later this year. Both cars will come in via the CKD route to be assembled at the company plant in Greater Noida.

3 units of Civic and a few units of CR-V have been produced by Honda Cars India at their plant. These units have been produced for testing purposes, before the actual production of the two cars start in the near future.

The new Honda Civic was unveiled in 2015 and has been on sale in global markets. In India, it was also on display at the 2018 Auto Expo and going by the Civic sedan’s past performance, this 10th gen model is also expected to impress buyers in the country.

10th gen Civic will spot a fastback design with steeply raked roofline and low slung stance. It will grow in dimensions as compared to its earlier counterpart with 4,644mm length, 1,799mm width and 1,416mm height. It will sit on a 2,700mm long wheelbase.

The new Honda CR-V returns to India after a brief discontinuation and skipping a generation. It will be positioned on Honda’s global compact platform on which 2018 Accord and 5th generation CR-V is also based.

Engine specifications on the new Civic include a 1.8 liter i-VTEC petrol engine and 1.6 liter i-DTEC turbocharged diesel engine offering 141 PS power and 174 NM torque and 120 PS power and 300 Nm torque respectively.

While the petrol engine gets mated to a CVT as standard, the diesel engine receives 6 speed manual and 9 speed automatic transmission options. Once officially launched in the country, the 10th generation Honda Civic will compete against the Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.

Honda CR-V, in a 7 seater configuration, is set for launch in October 2018. It will also get petrol and diesel engine options in the form of a 2.4 liter i-VTEC petrol and 1.6 liter i-DTEC diesel engine with CVT as standard.
