2018 Suzuki Burgman vs Honda Activa – Which is a better scooter for you?

The newly launched Suzuki Burgman Street 125 enters a segment which has been dominated to date by the Honda Activa 125. The new Suzuki Burgman takes on this rival, Honda Activa 125 in the scooter segment while it will also compete with the Suzuki Access in the 125 cc category.

Price – Suzuki Burgman Street 125 is a touring scooter that has been introduced in global markets and just been launched in India. It is priced from Rs 68,000, above the Honda Activa 125 which is priced from Rs 59,621 going up to Rs 64,007.

Design and Features– Suzuki Burgman Street 125 is a large scooter. It gets a comfortable and wide seat, offering a more upright ride position and a screen to protect the rider from strong winds. It boasts of an all digital instrument console, 2 storage compartments of which one is in the front and receives a 12V DC charging port and the other is under the seat which is large enough to contain a helmet. Large LED headlamp, multi function key slot, 14” alloy wheels and tubeless tyres are also among the features seen on the Burgman Street.

Honda Activa 125 has been recently updated for 2018 model year is available in three different variants – Standard, Drum Alloy and Deluxe. It is fitted with an LED headlamp, 4 in 1 lock with seat opener switch, a new instrument cluster with Eco Speed indicator and Service Due indicator, a USB charging socket, LED DRLs and 12” alloy wheels finished in a dark grey color scheme.

Suspension and Braking – Suzuki Burgman Street 125 gets telescopic forks in the front and dual shocks at the rear. It comes in with Combined Braking System and ABS as standard. Honda Activa 125 also gets telescopic forks in the front while braking is via drum brakes at both ends with front disc brake being offered as an option along with CBS.

Dimensions – Burgman Street 125 measures 1,880mm in length, 1,140mm in height and 675mm in width. It gets ground clearance of 160mm and kerb weight of 108 kgs while wheelbase is at 1,265mm. Fuel tank capacity is at 5.6 liters.

Honda Activa measures 1,814mm in length, 704mm in width and 1,151mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1,260mm and ground clearance of 155mm with kerb weight of 110 kgs and fuel tank of 5.3 liters capacity. It may be noted here that while dimensions are not so strikingly different, it is in the capacity of the fuel tank that the Burgman Street scores over the Honda Activa with a double capacity fuel tank.

Engine – Suzuki Burgman 125 is powered by a 124cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine is capable of 8.5 bhp power at 6,500 rpm and 10.2 Nm torque at 5,000 rpm with CVT transmission returning fuel efficiency of around 45-50 kmpl. This is the same engine seen on the Access 125 tweaked for better performance. The Burgman Street returns 53.4 kmpl.

Honda Activa 125 gets its power via a 124.8cc, air cooled, 4 stroke, single cylinder engine offering 8.6 PS power at 6,500 rpm and 10.1 Nm torque at 5,000 rpm. Here it may be noted that though both the engines are on par with each other in terms of power and torque, mileage on the Activa is definitely higher than that seen on the Burgman Street at 60 kmpl. Top speed of the Burgman Street is pegged at 90 kmph while the Honda Activa 125 commands a top speed of 84 kmph.

Color options – Suzuki Burgman Street 125 is presented in color options Glass Sparkle Black, Metallic Mat Firboins Gray and Pearl Mirage White. Honda Activa 125 is seen in color options of Pearl Amazing White, Rebel Red Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Matte Crust Metallic and Black.

So which of the two scooter is better for you? Well, if you want a more comfortable scooter, with relaxed riding position, you can opt for the Burgman. If you are looking for something smaller, easy to roam around, go with the Activa.
