Booking for the new gen small car was initiated in January. A few short weeks later, new gen Swift was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo. In its third month of business, Maruti Suzuki Swift gallops along at 75,000 bookings. That’s what happens when you take a popular car and make it even more desirable.
Available at a price of Rs 4.99 – 8.29 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), be assured of a waiting period of at least two months as on date. In it’s newest form, the changes are plenty, and noticeable. Efforts have been made to present a feature rich and stylish small car. Top end variants (Z+) are fitted with projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights (DRL).
Earlier it was noted that upward of 1.7 million Swift hatchbacks are plying Indian roads, and 5.8 million+, globally. Bookings for 2018 Swift had reached 60,000 in 15 days of launch, at which time waiting period was much higher.
A new black front grille is the first thing you’re likely to notice on the outside. New features – alloy wheels, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, rear door handlebar repositioning in the C-Pillar, a first for Maruti, and blackened glass area. C-shaped rear tail lamps house LED clusters. A floating roof design takes care of style cues. A roof spoiler, and a new bumper design are incorporated.

Built on the HEARTECT platform (also seen in Dzire and Baleno), 2018 Swift is about 85 kgs lighter. With that comes improved power to weight ratio, for 10 percent improvement in flat-out acceleration.
Color palette – Midnight Blue, Fire Red, Arctic White, Silky Silver, Magma Grey. Prime Lucent Orange is a new addition. On the inside, is a flat-bottom steering wheel and all-black interiors. Cockpit inspired Instrument Cluster hosts multiple functionality readings, including reverse parking camera display. SmartPlay infotainment unit ensures uninterrupted connectivity. A slightly wider body and wheelbase, and higher slant angle for rear seats result in improved shoulder room, and front bucket seats add comfort. Power comes from a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 5-speed AGS.
