2018 Yamaha R3 facelift spied on test for the first time
Yamaha R3 facelift is expected to make its way to India early next year, most likely at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Powered by a 321 cc twin cylinder liquid cooled engine, the new Yamaha R3 facelift has been spied on test for the first time. Arguably the best looking sportsbike in the 300 cc fully faired segment, its fuel injected 4 valve engine delivers maximum power of 42 PS at 10,750 rpm and a peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm.
Coupled with a six speed gearbox, this engine gives R3 a top speed of 187 kmph and 0-60 kmph acceleration of 2.89 seconds, and 0-100 kmph in under 6 seconds. For the facelift, these figures are expected to remain same.
Further accentuating the R3 facelift, are its diamond-type frame with telescopic forks in the front and monoshock at the rear. Tyre size for the front is 110/70 while rear gets 140/70 rubber, with 17 inch 10 spoke alloys. Both front and rear get disc brakes with ABS. Front gets 298 mm disc while rear gets 220 mm disc.
Weighing 169 kgs, dimensions of R3 stand at 2090 x 720 x 1135 (length x width x height)mm, with a wheelbase of 1380 mm and ground clearance of 160 mm. Compared to the pre-facelift, the new spy shots show that the upcoming R3 is more sporty to look at. In addition to this, there will be the option of new colours and decals, making the bike more appealing.
Yamaha R3 was first launched in India back in 2015. No longer on sale in India, the bike was discontinued from sale back in March 2017. The reason – Yamaha India are yet to upgrade the engine of R3 to meet BS4 emission norms. Instead of launching the current R3, Yamaha India could launch the R3 facelift at 2018 Auto Expo.
