Bajaj Dominar 400, the adventure tourer and the flagship model of Bajaj, is all set to get a major update. First spotted on test in Leh Ladakh last September, enthusiasts have been waiting for this update a long time. Not only 2019 Dominar gets updated in looks and features, but also in engine department.
So when is it launching? Well, if Bajaj authorized dealers are to be believed, launch is expected to take place in coming days. Price? Dealers in Pune are quoting on road price in the range of Rs 2.2 lakhs, while those in Bangalore are quoting price of about Rs 2.45 lakhs on road.
Bajaj has not yet announced official prices of new Dominar. Priced will only be revealed at the launch. But if dealer estimates are right, price of 2019 Dominar has been increased by about Rs 25k to Rs 35k, depending on the city you are buying from.
The price will be increased because of added features. Where the visual updates are concerned, the 2019 Bajaj Dominar will get a larger radiator for better cooling, new rear view mirror stalk, leg guards and a new exhaust system with twin canister and integrated catalytic converter. LED headlamps remains same as before, and so does the instrument cluster, but compared to before, the IC and fuel tank mounted display deliver more information to the rider, in the form of time, odometer, gear position, speed, fuel level, real time mileage etc.
To improve riding dynamics, 2019 Bajaj Dominar will come with increased ground clearance and USD forks. Ground clearance has been increased thanks to the change in exhaust system. There will however, be no change in the multi step adjustable monoshock seen at the rear. ABS will be a standard feature on the new 2019 Dominar 400. Braking will continue to be via the same Bybre 320mm disc in the front and 220mm disc at the rear.
Bajaj Dominar is currently powered by a 373cc single cylinder engine offering 35 PS power at 8,000 rpm and 35 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm mated to a 6 speed gearbox. Current engine is a SOHC unit, while the new one gets DOHC unit. This has resulted in smoother performance, higher rpm limit. Power and torque output is same as before, but due to increase in rpm limiter, acceleration has improved, and so has the top speed. This has been detailed in the video below by ‘the Storm rider’.
These changes in terms of added visual updates, upgraded instrumentation, new hardware, DOHC engine, has resulted in a price hike of 2019 Bajaj Dominar. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of BMW G310R, Mahindra Mojo, upcoming Honda CB300R, and Bajaj’s fav rival, haathi aka Royal Enfield C350.
