2019 BMW 3 Series launch price Rs 41.4 L – Gets buy back guarantee

BMW India has officially launched the 7th Gen 3 Series sedan in India today. First unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the new 3er has increased in dimensions, which has resulted in spacious cabin. In spite of growing in size, kerb weight has reduced by 55 kgs.

The new BMW 3 Series is based on the CLAR platform on which the 5 Series and 7 Series are also positioned. It is due to this new platform that dimensions have increased while overall weight has reduced as compared to its outgoing model. It also gets a guaranteed buy-back scheme (max value Rs 23 lakhs.)

The 3 Series is now 76mm longer while wheelbase is increased by 41mm relating to better leg room and luggage capacity. This takes total dimensions to 4,709mm length, 1,827mm width and 1,442 mm height along with a 2,851mm long wheelbase. The CLAR platform also makes the new BMW 3 Series around 55 kgs lighter thereby offering better power to weight ratio.

In terms of its exterior design, the new 3 Series gets a larger kidney grille with a thick chrome outline and flanked by new LED headlamps and L shaped LED DRLs. It also gets a thick shoulder line running above the door handles and a new rear bumper design. The interiors show off a more driver focused cabin. Space is at a premium while boot space is at 480 liters.

On the inside, there is a large 8.8” floating infotainment system with iDrive that can be upgraded to a 10.25” unit. This iDrive system can be accessed via a rotary dial, touchpad, touchscreen, voice command or gesture control. The 3 Series sports an all digital instrument console and cabin comforts include leather upholstery, 3 zone climate control and rain sensing wipers.

As compared to the outgoing model, the new 3 Series gets rear seats in a 40:20:40 split folding function and more storage spaces in its cabin. Safety features include a rear camera, auto brake, reversing assist, lane departure warning, collision and pedestrian warning with city braking function, etc.

The 2019 3 Series gets its 2.0 liter petrol and 2 liter diesel engine option. Petrol engine is offered in a single variant of 330i M Sport. The engine delivers 258 PS and 400 Nm. It does a 0-100 kmph in 5.8 seconds. Mileage claimed is 16.13 kmpl. Petrol engine is BS6 compliant.

Diesel engine is offered in two variants of 320d Sport and 320d Luxury Line. Both get the same 2 liter engine which delivers 190 PS and 400 Nm. It does 0-100 kmph in 6.8 seconds, claiming 19.62 kmpl. Both petrol and diesel engine options are mated to 8 speed Steptronic Automatic gearbox.

Entry level 320d Sport misses out on features like Apple CarPlay, Ambient Lighting, Kidney grille with chrome slats, fully digital 12.3 inch instrument panel, high res control display of 10 inches, BMW Operating System, iDrive Touch system, voice control, etc. The new BMW 3 Series enters a segment where it will compete against the Audi A4, Jaguar XE, Mercedes Benz C Class and Volvo S60.
