Hyundai HB20 was first launched in Brazil back in 2012. It is a mid sized hatchback, very much like the i20 sold in India. Thanks to its size, efficient yet powerful engine options and features, the Hyundai HB20 soon shot to success in Brazil.
One of the best selling cars in the segment, HB20 was due for a generation update. The new gen variant had been spotted on test multiple times. Today, Hyundai Brazil has announced the global debut of new generation HB20, not in one, but in three body styles.
These are HB20 hatcback, HB20X crossover and HB20S sedan. All three will soon be launched in Brazil, and in other countries. The first of the three to be launched is the HB20 hatchback, which will go on sale next month. The other two, HB20X and HB20S will go on sale later this year.
Speaking about the HB20 hatchback, it is now longer and wider by 20 mm. Length stands at 3940 mm and width stands at 1700 mm. Wheelbase has increased by 30 mm, and now stands at 2530 mm. Height remains same at 1470 mm while boot space also remains same as before at 300 liters. The added dimensions result in more space on the inside for passengers, especially for the rear seat legroom and shoulder room.
The HB20S sedan is now longer by 30mm and stands at 4260 mm length. The height, width and wheelbase of the sedan variant remains same as the hatchback variant. Boot space has increased by 25 liters and now is at 475 liters. HB20X crossover has similar dimensions like the hatchback, except for the taller stance at 1540 mm and a larger ground clearance of 205mm.
Powering the three new car are a set of new engines. They will be powered with 1 liter naturally aspirated and 1 liter Direct Injection Turbo engine. Both engines are 3 cylinder mills. The former engine delivers 80 hp and 100 Nm torque. The turbo engine delivers 120 hp and 172 Nm. There is also a 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder motor on offer, which was also on offer with outgoing variant. Manual as well as automatic transmission options are on offer.
Speaking about interiors, all three cars get similar setup of dashboard, seats as well as feature. The only major differences on the inside are the colour options.
Dashboard is completely new and now features an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system which is compatible with Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. AC gets manual controls with digital display. The instrument cluster gets manual as well as digital display – it is similar to the Grand i10 NIOS which was recently launched in India.
Features on offer include airbags, ABS, EBD, frontal collision prevention system, automatic emergency braking, lane assistance, rear parking sensor, cruise control, keyless entry, push button start/stop, tyre pressure monitoring system, traction control, three-point headrest and belt for all rear seat occupants, etc.
Price of the HB20 hatchback starts from $16,490 (Rs 11.83 lakhs). Prices of other two cars, HB20X and HB20S will be revealed at a later date, closer to launch. Below is the detailed image gallery of all three cars.
