2019 Mahindra XUV300, based on the SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV is slated for launch in India in Feb 2019. Codenamed S201 till date, the official name was revealed by Mahindra at an event in Mumbai today.
Set to enter the compact sub 4 meter SUV segment, which is currently ruled by the likes of Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon, the 2019 XUV300 will be a front wheel drive SUV. It will have a monocoque construction developed by Mahindra while in terms of design, it will follow the same design concept as seen on the XUV500. Just like the XUV500, the XUV300 is also Cheetah-inspired, as can be seen in the official TVC video below.
This entry level compact SUV will boast of distinct new features, most of them are first in the segment. It will be seen with projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED rear lamps and electrically adjustable ORVMs with LED indicators. Interiors will have contemporary comfort and convenience features.
The XUV300 will be seen in a beige and black color scheme and will get leather upholstery, a multi function steering wheel, automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Though it is an entry level, sub compact SUV, the new XUV300 will be laden with safety features among which will be 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors and ABS and EBD.
Mahindra XUV300 will be powered by the same engine as seen powering the Marazzo, making it the most powerful car in the segment. This 1.5 liter mHawk diesel engine will offer 123 PS and 300 Nm. It will be mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. A new petrol engine will also be on offer. This could be a 1.2 liter turbocharged unit delivering 120 PS. Automatic XUV300 will be launched at a later date.
Built on a monocoque chassis, as per the Korean NCAP, this is the safest sub 4 meter platform ever. Mahindra has not crash tested the XUV300 yet, but are confident that it will deliver a good report. Crash test will be performed post launch. Expect prices of this new Mahindra XUV300 SUV to be in the range of Rs 7-11 lakhs.
