2019 Maruti Suzuki WagonR variant features revealed before launch

Ahead of official launch on January 23, variant-wise features of the new 2019 Maruti Suzuki WagonR have been leaked. Though Maruti Suzuki WagonR hatchback continues with its tall boy stance, it does see a change in dimensions.

The new WagonR is now 19mm longer, 125mm wider and has a 35mm longer wheelbase as compared to the outgoing model. These increased dimensions result in added cabin space by an extra 85mm while the increased wheelbase enhances cabin space by an extra 30mm. It has also been seen that boot space will have added capacity. Being based on a new Heartect platform, results in weight decrease by 65kgs while tyre size has been enhanced.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR comes in with a total of 3 trims, L, V and Z; 7 variants and two petrol engine options. The 1.0 litre petrol engine will be offered on the LXI, VXI and VXI AMT (auto-gear shift) trims while the 1.2 litre engine will be offered on VXI, VXI AMT, ZXI and ZXI AMT trims, taking total number of variants to seven. Detailed below are the engine, equipment and safety features to be seen on each of these three trims.

WagonR LXI – This variant gets its power via a 1.0 liter engine mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. It gets 13” steel wheels fitted with 155/80 R13 tyres, front power windows, central locking, integrated headrests and manual air conditioning. In terms of safety, it gets rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder, door open warning and ABS and EBD.

New WagonR vs rivals.

WagonR VXi – This mid variant is powered by both a 1.0 liter and 1.2 liter engine options with engines mated to 5 speed manual and 5 speed AMT. It is seen with body color wing mirrors and door handles, power adjustable wing mirrors, front and rear power windows and speed sensitive door locks. It sits on 14 inch steel wheels fitted with 165/70 R14 tyres and gets blacked out B pillar. In terms of safety it is seen with tilt adjustable steering, keyless entry, day and night inside rear view mirrors and steering mounted controls. Seating is on a 60:40 split at the rear while audio system comes in with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

WagonR ZXi – Top of the line Wagon R ZXi is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine mated to 5 speed manual and 5 speed AMT. It gets power folding and adjustable wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators, a tachometer, 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and safety features among which are front fog lamps, rear defogger, washer and wiper, seat belt pre-tensioners and load limiters and dual front airbags.

Set to compete with the likes of Renault Kwid, Datsun Go, Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro, the new WagonR will be launched on 23rd February and will come in with expected prices between Rs 4.5 lakhs and 6 lakhs
