Maruti Suzuki India Limited is set to introduce the new WagonR on January 23, 2019. Ahead of that, Maruti has now announced the official opening of bookings. Starting from today, you can book new 2019 WagonR either online or at a dealer near you by paying an amount of Rs 11,000.
2019 Maruti WagonR will be presented in 3 variants, L, V and Z. This new gen model has been christened as the ‘Big new WagonR’. It gets new design, features and mechanical upgrades. Measuring 3,655mm in length, 1,620mm in width and 1,675mm in height, the new WagonR sits on a 2,435mm long wheelbase.
It retains its tall boy image and gets six color options of Superior White, Silky Silver, Magma Grey, Autumn Orange, Nutmeg Brown and Poolside Blue. It gets blacked out B and C Pillar, elongated tail lamps, rear-windscreen wiper and washer and a floating roof design.
The interiors of 2019 Maruti WagonR also gets refreshed and is seen in a dual tone of brown and beige. The dashboard now features a touchscreen (SmartPlay Studio infotainment experience). It also gets a 12V phone charging socket, electrically adjustable mirrors, power windows, manual air conditioning and a multifunction steering wheel.
Maruti says, “The Big New WagonR drives ahead with its unique characteristics of space and comfort from its outgoing version. The new WagonR gets bigger with enhanced comfort. The car’s sturdy and masculine look with true tall boy design makes for a strong road presence.”
Based on the 5th gen Heartect platform, cabin space is better than before, resulting in added shoulder room and legroom. Boot space has also been increased. Safety features will include ABS with EBD, driver airbag, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors as standard. Use of high tensile steel has resulted in better safety, as well as NVH levels, reveals Maruti Suzuki.
Engine specifications also get revised on the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR. It gets the same 1.0 liter, three cylinder petrol engine on the base and mid variant, but the mid and top spec model will now be offered with a 1.2 liter, four cylinder engine that also powers the Ignis and Swift. This engine offers 82 bhp power and 115 Nm torque. Both engines are mated to either manual or AMT option.
The current WagonR is priced from Rs 4.15-5.39 lakhs but the new WagonR could come in with a marginally higher price tag. It will rival the likes of the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro upon launch.
