MG Hector has made its global debut in India today. The event took place at a hotel in Mumbai. Launch will take place next month, date has not been announced. Bookings too will open next month. Today was the first ever public unveil of the Hector SUV. Dealer network has not bee revealed yet, but MG promised that it will be spread across India. Without revealing dealer network details, MG has claimed that they already have setup 120 touchpoints as of today. 130 more touchpoints will be added by Sep 2019, taking the total number to 250 touchpoints. It is to be noted here that touchpoints does not mean dealership. A single dealer will have multiple touchpoints.
Biggest car in the segment, MG Hector is 4655 mm long, 1835 mm wide, 1760 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2750 mm and a ground clearance of 192 mm. It has the largest boot space of 587 liters. 2019 MG Hector will be available in 4 trims of Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. Hector Style being the base variant while Hector Sharp being the top variant. Engine and transmission options on offer are 1.5 liter petrol 6 speed manual, 1.5 liter DCT 6 speed auto and 2 liter diesel 6 speed manual. Petrol engine option is also offered with hybrid tech. Diesel auto is not on offer. All variants are FWD, there is no AWD on offer.
1.5 liter petrol engine is rated to deliver 143 PS and 250 Nm while 2 liter diesel, which is sourced from FCA India, is rated to deliver 170 PS and 350 Nm. This makes the Hector more powerful than rival Tata Harrier, but similarly spec’ed as the Jeep Compass diesel. ARAI certified mileage of Hector petrol manual stands at 14.1 kmpl, petrol auto is 13.9 kmpl and that of diesel manual stands at 17.4 kmpl. Mileage of the petrol hybrid variant has not been mentioned in the leaked document. It could be revealed at the debut event later today in Mumbai. Colour options on offer with MG Hector include White, Silver, Black, Glaze Red, Burgandy Red.
MG Hector Style – The base variant of MG Hector gets 4 speakers, dual airbags, rear armrest with cup holders, fabric seats, driver armrest with storage, cooled glove box, ISOFIX, 60-40 split rear seats, rear AC vents, 2 fast charging USB ports, rear seat recline with flat floor, reverse parking sensor, disc brake on all four wheels, steel wheels, roof rail, LED turn indicator integrated in ORVM, ABS (anti brake lock system), EBD (electric brake distribution), BA (brake assist), ESP (electronic stability program), TCS (traction control system), VSM (vehicle stability management), HHC (hill hold control). This variant is only offered with petrol manual 6 speed.
MG Hector Super – In addition to the above mentioned features, this one also gets 10.4 inch AVN touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple Carplay compatibility, 4 speakers with 2 tweeters, cruise control, LED tail lamps, chrome door handles on the outside, reverse parking camera with display, LED rear fog lamp. This variant is offered with petrol manual, petrol hybrid manual and diesel manual.
MG Hector Smart – This variant gets the much publicized internet connectivity feature with eSIM 4G tech, 4 speakers and 4 tweeters, subwoofer, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), remote car operation via smartphone app, 7 inch MID display in instrument console, 4 airbags, push button start stop, keyless entry, leather seats, 6 way powered driver seat, electric handbrake for AT variant, power adjustable and foldable ORVM, chrome line on exterior cladding, 17 inch machine cut alloys. This variant is offered with all petrol and diesel engine / transmission options.
MG Hector Sharp – Top of the line MG Hector SUV gets 6 airbags, panoramic sunroof, sunglass holder, heated ORVMs, rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, 4 way electrically controlled front passenger seat, mood lights with 8 colours, 360 surround view camera. This variant is also offered with all 4 variants.
Apart from being internet car, it is also one of the most feature rich car in the segment. Once launched, MG Hector will take on the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, etc. Expected to be priced in the Rs 15-20 lakh range, launch will take place next month.
