Mini has launched the Countryman Black Edition in India. This new MINI edition borrows inspiration from the Countryman Cooper S JCW Inspired variant. It is priced at Rs.42.40 lakhs, ex-sh.
This is Rs.1 lakh more expensive than the Inspired variant. For this higher price tag, you get several styling updates, needless to say – all in a black colour scheme.
Mini Countryman Black Edition gets a black finished front grille, JCW carbon fiber ORVMs, piano black headlamps, tail lamp bezels and blackened roof rails with black stripes on its bonnet. It also receives a distinctive Countryman badge finished in black and rides on 18” JCW alloy wheels fitted with run flat tyres.
The interiors also see several black coloured elements. It gets a head up display, panoramic sunroof, seats with power / memory function, sport seats for driver and front passenger in Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black and Mini wired package.
A Harmon Kardon sound system, JCW steering wheel and JCW aero kit are also a part of its interior makeup. Safety equipment is the same as that seen on the standard model to include 2 airbags at the front, rear camera with parking sensors, dynamic stability control and cornering brake control. ABS with brake assist is also among its safety featuers.
Where mechanics are concerned, the Mini Countryman Black Edition gets the same engine as seen on the JCW Inspired variant. This BS6 2.0 liter, turbocharged, 4 cylinder petrol engine makes 192 PS peak power and 280 Nm peak torque and is mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 7.5 seconds. Mileage claimed is 14.41 kmpl.
The Mini Countryman does not have any direct rival, but as per price range, it competes with the likes of BMW X1, Mercedes Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40.
In other news, the Mini Cooper SE, the company’s first all electric car has just been launched in the US. It is priced from USD 29,900 (Rs 21.21 lakhs). It is a 3 door hatch with a zero emission powertrain with a 184 hp motor and front wheel drive system.
The Mini Cooper electric is fitted with a lithium ion battery pack, which delivers a drive range of 200-230 kms. Top speed is 150 kmph. The battery pack is located on the vehicle floor so as to keep boot space the same as that seen on the petrol powered Mini 3 door hatchback.
