Volvo has finally taken wraps off their all new generation S60 sedan. Set to enter production at Volvo’s new plant in Charleston, South Carolina, United States, the Volvo 60 will rival the likes of Mercedes C Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.
Volvo S60 which made its debut at a gala event inside their new plant, is built on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). This is the same platform which forms the basis of their new gen cars like XC90, XC60 and V90. India launch of the mid-sized family sedan is set to take place next year.
In terms of features, the Volvo gets all the latest technology on offer in the automotive world. From touchscreen infotainment to state of the art driving assist features, which make the new S60 a semi-autonomous vehicle. Its new Autobrake technology can identify pedestrians, cycles and large animals in its path and Pilot Auto that aids steering, braking and acceleration on marked roads upto 80 mph.
Volvo S60 measures 4,761mm in length, 2,040mm in width and 1,431mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,872mm and weighs 1,680kg with upto 442 litres of storage space. The Volvo S60 gets wishbone front suspension and integral axle at the rear and will be offered in a choice of four petrol engines which will also include two plug in hybrids. No diesel engines will be on offer with this car. This is due to Volvo’s commitment towards a cleaner future, and electrification of all their cars by 2025.
All four versions of the new S60 get the same 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine. On the T5, it offers 247 bhp sending power to front wheels. The T6 gets supercharging and an added 60 bhp along with an all wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 5.6 seconds.
T8 and T8 Polestar Engineered get the same 2.0 liter petrol engine with a 10.8 kWh battery back and e-motor positioned on the rear axle offering an added EV range of 60 kmph. One can expect the new Volvo S60 in India sometime next year when prices will also be revealed.
