Datsun India is expected to launch its 2020MY redi-GO BS6 facelift as soon as COVID-19 lockdown measures are withdrawn
Datsun India, under Nissan India, has officially teased the upcoming redi-GO facelift ahead of its fast-approaching launch timeline. The 2020 Datsun redi-GO facelift will meet BS6 emission norms alongside offering improved features and looks. In an official statement, Datsun India states that the new redi-GO is “a complete package of bold design, power and performance” — for its price and displacement.
We expect the budget hatchback to be launched as soon as the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown measures are withdrawn, or in other words, by mid-May 2020. The lockdown is effective till 3 May 2020 but due to the uncertainty in the current state of affairs, it could be extended at the very last moment.
As expected, the new Datsun redi-GO BS6 teasers reveal minimum details. However, one can observe its elongated L-shaped LED DRLs. We also get a glimpse of the large grille that dominates the entire front profile. Compared to the outgoing BS4 model, the front-end has received a major overhaul.
The side profile teaser, once enhanced, unveils some interesting bits. The 2020MY Datsun redi-GO BS6 gets a fresh set of five-spoke wheel caps. Alloy wheels are still not available even as an option just like its major rivals or alternatives coming in a similar price range. Being a facelift, the overall silhouette has not changed despite sporting new roof rails and a spoiler. Though not immediately noticeable, the tail lamp cluster is also different.
Inside, the car has most likely received a host of updates in terms of cosmetics and equipment. What remains to be known is whether the company has made any improvements in the safety department. The current model gets only a driver-side airbag and for the same reason, it scored a 1-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests. The company might introduce a new range of colour choices in addition to this blue (original hue and tone are different from the enhanced image you see here).
The outgoing Datsun redi-GO model is available with two three-cylinder petrol engine choices: 800cc and 1.0-litre (manual and AMT). They are already on the market in BS6 format, powering the new Renault Kwid. Output figures remain the same as before at 53bhp/72Nm and 67bhp/91Nm, respectively. We expect the 2020 Datsun redi-GO BS6 to launch at a starting price just under Rs 3 lakh ex-showroom.
