2020 Hyundai Creta spied in India

The next gen Hyundai Creta has made its global debut in China as the 2020 ix25. Just like the current Creta on sale in India, the new gen Creta is also same as the ix25 from China. Recently, Team-BHP member Shridhar shared new photos of the upcoming SUV, which confirm that the design of 2020 Creta for India and that of new ix25 in China is same.

Compared to the current Creta, the new 2020 Creta gets a completely new design, which the company claims is future ready. Built on the latest Hyundai design philosophy, 2020 Creta is larger than current Creta.

Where dimensions are concerned, the Hyundai Creta will measure 4,300mm in length, 1,790mm in width and 1,622mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,610mm. These dimensions make it 30mm longer, 10mm wider and 8mm shorter as compared to its current counterpart while wheelbase is increased by 20mm resulting in better interior and boot space.

Interiors now feature dual tone finish. Window size in the front is larger, and so is the size of the windscreen. Along with larger sunroof, this has resulted in giving the cabin a more airy feel. The center dash now consists of a larger, vertical standing touchscreen. This is the largest touchscreen in this segment. Dashboard is without any buttons. The only buttons you will find along the dash, are on the steering wheel.

Below the touchscreen, is the premium gear lever, inspired from Audi. Next to it is the electronic parking brake and drive modes. The touchscreen system is powered by Hyundai BlueLink, which is also seen on the Venue. With Creta, a more advanced version will be rolled out. It will have voice command assist like seen on MG Hector. There will also be Internet Connected features as seen on Venue.

Engine options on offer for India with 2020 Creta, will be same as we have seen in Kia Seltos. These include 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine options – all BS6 compliant. These are a 1.5 liter petrol, 1.4 liter turbocharged petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engine.

The 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine offers 115 bhp power and 144 Nm torque. The 1.4 liter, 4 cylinder, turbocharged unit will be capable of 140 bhp power and 242 Nm torque. The engines get mated to a 6 speed manual transmission while the naturally aspirated engine gets a CVT and the turbocharged engine gets 7 speed DCT. The 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine makes 115 hp power and 250 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed torque converter AT.

The 2020 Hyundai Creta will compete with Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur. Prices will be in the Rs 10-16 lakh range. Launch in India is expected to take place at 2020 Auto Expo.
