2020 Hyundai Creta BS6 spied in India – Similar to new ix25 from China

Hyundai Creta is due for upgrade. The vehicle was launched back in July 2015, and its first-gen avatar is being revised. 2020 Hyundai Creta has now been spied testing. And from the looks of it, there’s some similarity with the next-gen Hyundai ix25. The India-spec test mule sports wide front grille design. The overall vehicle design could draw parallels with the brand’s Palisade SUV, a newbie in the house.

Hyundai is keen on consolidating, and growing its’ SUV market share in India in a sustainable manner. For this the company recently launched its Hyundai Venue compact SUV. On the top end of the SUV portfolio sits the Tucson, and Creta is the middle child.

With Hyundai Venue getting off to a blockbuster start, efforts will be made to retain Hyundai Creta’s market popularity. And design revisions will be key because a namesake upgrade isn’t going to cut it.

2020 Hyundai Creta new generation will be longer, wider and lower than the current Creta. The car spied, is most likely a 5 seater Creta. There is going to be a longer variant, which will be 7 seater. It will come with internet connectivity features, as seen in the Venue. In the front, the headlight design is similar to what we have seen in cars like Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Venue – where the LED DRL is on top, while the headlight is below it.

Interiors are offered in two options – all black and dual tone of beige and black. With the cabin more spacious, the seats are now bigger, and offer better support. Soft leather touches are there all over the cabin. On the dashboard is a new, larger touchscreen infotainment system. Sunroof is larger than current Creta. Boot space too has increased.

Powering the new Hyundai Creta in India will be new BS6 petrol and diesel engines. These are expected to be the same which are being offered with Kia Seltos. These are 1.5 liter petrol delivering 115 hp and 144 Nm. 1.5 liter diesel delivering 115 hp and 250 Nm. Both these engine options will be offered with manual 6 speed gearbox as standard. Petrol motor gets IVT auto as option, while diesel motor gets 6 AT as option.

In addition to the above BS6 new gen engines, 2020 Hyundai Creta could also get the 1.4 liter turbo petrol from Seltos. This engine is the most powerful of the lot, and delivers best in class performance. It is rated to deliver 140 hp and 242 Nm via either 6 MT or 7 DCT. Mileage figures of all engine options are in the range of 16-20 kmpl. This means that some variants of the new 2020 Creta will be less powerful than today, but they will be more fuel efficient and will emit lesser carbon.

Pricing of the new gen Creta will be similar to Creta pricing today. Expect petrol 2020 Hyundai Creta price to range from Rs 10-14 lakhs, while the diesel 2020 Creta could be priced in the range of Rs 10-16 lakhs.
