The 2020 Hyundai Verna with a comprehensive design overhaul is all set to be launched in India next month
New pieces of information about the popular mid-size sedan keep trickling down and we can now reveal the variant lineup and color options of the latest iteration. The new Verna will be offered in four trim levels namely S, S+, SX and SX(O). The sedan will be powered by a set of one diesel engine and two petrol engines. The 1.5-liter diesel motor will be available only in SX and SX(O) trims while the range-topping 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol motor is likely to be offered only in SX(O) trim.
It goes without saying that all the three engines will comply with the soon-to-be-enforced BS6 emission standards. The base petrol is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter unit which is tuned to deliver 115 hp and 144 Nm of torque. The 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine also puts out an identical 115 hp of power but the torque output stands at 250 Nm. Both engines will be offered with a standard 6-speed gearbox. The diesel can also be opted with a 6-speed torque converter AT while the petrol unit will offer a CVT option. The diesel engine is reported to deliver a mileage / fuel economy of 21.4 kmpl in manual avatar.

The high-end 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine is a new addition to the lineup and is borrowed from the Venue crossover. The motor will be available exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power and torque outputs stand at 120 hp and 177 Nm respectively. Apart from that, it will also receive design update, to differentiate it from the standard variant. It will get gloss black grille, twin tip exhaust, front parking sensors, all black interiors with red inserts and paddle shifters.

The 2020 Hyundai Verna will receive a radical design makeover even though its more of a facelift rather than a next-generation model. If the Russia-spec 2020 Hyundai Solaris (Verna is sold under Solaris nameplate there) is to be taken as reference, we can expect a much sharper front end with a prominent angular grille, interesting grille elements and large peeled back headlamp clusters with built-in LED DRLs.
2020 Hyundai Verna Colours
The bonnet gets new character lines while the side profile retains the familiarity. The revised rear, unlike the audacious China-spec sedan, settles for a much sober styling with instantly recognisable Hyundai elements. The India-spec Hyundai Verna facelift will be offered with 6 exterior colour options – Typhoon Silver, Starry Night, Titan Grey, Fiery Red, Phantom Black and Polar White.
The interior too has been significantly redesigned. The new dashboard looks simpler and houses a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The Indian model will adopt black-beige dual-tone interior colour theme. Interiors will also be powered by the Hyundai Bluelink tech, which will deliver eSIM connected as well as Voice command features to the new Verna.
The 2020 Hyundai Verna is coming to India just ahead of the all-new Honda City’s arrival. The two mid-size sedan’s will not only battle against each other but will also have to fend off compact crossovers in the price bracket.
