2020 Jeep Compass Night Eagle special edition teased – India launch soon

The Night Eagle Special Edition is expected to offer glossy black accents and additional features

The 2020 Jeep Compass Night Eagle special edition has been teased ahead of its imminent debut. The Night Eagle edition of the pre-facelift version was on offer in several international markets and this time Jeep describes it as the “first global limited edition” of the Compass.

What can we expect from Jeep Compass Night Eagle?

We expect the latest iteration of Jeep Compass Night Eagle to feature additional features like the previous editions. For reference, the previous special edition featured gloss black finishes of strategic locations including a 18-inch glossy black alloy wheels, an 8.4-inch U-Connect infotainment system (the facelifted Compass features an updated system), special techno leather upholstery with contrast stitches and so on.

The 2020 Compass Night Eagle limited edition is expected to feature similar glossy black accents and special livery. The teaser only reveals the Night Eagle badge on the tailgate. One can also expect the special edition to offer additional features including driving assistance systems as standard fitment.

The popular compact SUV received a facelift earlier this year. While the visual tweaks are hardly noticeable, it features a new 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine which replaces the 1.4-liter unit. The new engine is available in 120 hp and 150 hp avatars with identical torque output of 270 Nm.

The marginally downsized motor is claimed to be 30% more efficient than the outgoing unit. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions. There will also be hybrid variants in the future employing this engine in conjunction with an electric motor to produce a combined outputs ranging from 190 to 240 hp. Only hybrid models of the new Compass will have all-wheel-drive capability.

The Europe-spec 2021 Jeep Compass comes with a 120 hp 1.6-liter diesel engine but the Indian version is most likely to retain the more powerful 2.0-liter unit.

When is 2021 Jeep Compass facelift coming to India?

The new Jeep Compass has already started testing in India. The premium compact crossover recently received BS6 upgrades and we expect the facelift version to be ready sometime towards the end of this year. Considering that the 2021 Jeep Compass Night Eagle is a global special edition, we expect to be be introduced in India a few months after the facelifted version debuts here. After all, India is one of the primary production locations for the SUV.

The Jeep Compass competes with the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector and fully-loaded variants of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta in India. The company is also working on a 7-seater variant which was spotted in Brazil.
