2020 Land Rover Defender SUV makes global debut – Photos

At the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show today, Land Rover has taken wraps off new gen Defender SUV. 2020 Land Rover Defender gets several changes. The basic rounded headlamps get modified to more square shaped clusters.

The front end looks lower and narrower as compared to its current counterpart while small wing mirrors, a boxy roofline, flared wheel arches and a generous amount of ground clearance was also noted on the Defender at the movie set.

New Defender is available in 90 and 110 body designs. The 2 door, Defender 90 measures in at just over 4.3 metres, with up to six seats, The 5 door, Defender 110 measures at around 4.7 metres with seat options of five, six, or 5+2 seating. Model range includes Defender, First Edition, and Defender X top end vehicles in standard, S, SE, and HSE specification packs.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender has been tested for over 12 lakh kms on all kinds of surfaces across the globe in varying weather conditions. The 2020 Defender has been taken to the Arctic region and to the Rocky Mountains and also to the sand dunes in Dubai while it has been raced across the Nürburgring race track to check out its on-road dynamics.

New Defender will be sold in 90 and 110 configuration with the Defender 110 to be the first to be launched. It will be powered by the JLR Ingenium range of engines consisting of a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine offering 197 hp power, a 2.0 liter diesel engine offering 237 hp power and a 3.0 liter, 6 cylinder diesel capable of peak power of 296 hp.

The petrol engine lineup will include a 296 hp 2.0 liter engine, a 398 hp plug-in hybrid engine and a 395 hp 3.0 liter, 6 cylinder engine. Each of the variants will get all wheel drive and automatic transmission as standard. The SUV will next be seen in the James Bond movie – No Time to Die.

Once launched, the 2020 Land Rover Defender will compete with Jeep Wrangler. Launch in India is also on the cards sometime in the latter half of 2020. Prices in the US will start from $50,000 and go all the way to $80,000. Expect prices in India to be about Rs 70 lakhs.
