BS6 petrol and diesel engine options are on offer. Prices start from Rs 57.06 lakh, ex-sh for the S D180.
2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport has been launched in India and it comes with style updates, additional features and new engine options. It may be recalled that this compact luxury crossover SUV had made its global debut in 2014 and worked as a replacement for Freelander. Since 2017, Discovery Sport has been the third bestselling model in Jaguar Land Rover’s portfolio.
Land Rover Discovery Sport facelift utilizes the Evoque Transverse Architecture, which can also support electric powertrain. The new chassis ensures improved user experience, as it significantly reduces noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Stiffness of the chassis has been increased and sub frames are more rigidly mounted, which help reduce NVH levels.
In terms of design, 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport gets a sleeker front fascia with updated front and rear bumpers, redesigned headlamps and LED DRLs, and prominent front grille. Apart from these, there aren’t any major changes to the exteriors. Certain features such as rising belt-line, roofline, and clamshell bonnet are the same as the outgoing model.
Updates in new Discovery Sport continue to the interiors as well. Insides are sleek and spacious and chrome accents have been liberally used for a premium look. We can see an entirely new central console and a redesigned dashboard. While the earlier model had the conventional, bulkier-looking central console with manual buttons, new Discovery Sport comes with capacitive control panel and a large, 10-inch touchscreen unit. The new console makes the cockpit area clutter-free and a lot more sophisticated.
Driver experience has been further refined with the use of a multi-function steering wheel that also comes with capacitive switches. All these components are now offered as standard. Other key features include 4G Wi-Fi hotspot and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Land Rover Discovery Sport facelift is also offering a range of driver aids such as emergency braking, lane keep assist, and driver condition monitor. Steering assist and adaptive cruise control are also available as optional technologies for enhanced safety.
Powering the new Land Rover Discovery Sport will be the updated range of Ingenium engines that include the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel units. The P250 petrol and D180 diesel engines are available that churn out 250 bhp and 180 bhp, respectively. Both engines will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive will come as standard. A mild-hybrid electric option is available as well with the petrol motor, which comes with regenerative braking. This allows the vehicle to gain energy at the time of braking and deceleration.
At first, only the diesel engine variants will be delivered. Deliveries of petrol variants will commence later. Prices of diesel variants are Rs 57.06 lakh for the S variant and Rs 60.89 lakh for the R-Dynamic SE variant. All prices are ex-sh. 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport will continue to rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Porsche Cayenne and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
