Maruti Ignis facelift 2020 Auto Expo

All new Maruti Ignis facelift with 1.2 liter petrol BS6 engine has been unveiled. Launch bookings started across all Nexa dealerships in India.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited did meet expected success with the Ignis crossover hatchback, which was first launched in January 2017. Now, with the BS6 update, Maruti has also given the Ignis a facelift on the outside as well as on the inside. Will this boost sales, time will tell.

2020 Maruti Ignis facelift exterior updates are inspired by the recently launched Maruti S-Presso mini SUV. The Ignis facelift receives a new bumper design, restyled front grille and faux skid plates. It does carry forward the same headlamp units and projectors along with similar looking LED DRLs while fog lamps are positioned on either sides of the bumper. There are some changes to the rear as well with new tail lamps, revised bumper and roof mounted spoiler along with vertically positioned reflectors.

Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “IGNIS enjoys a special place in the Maruti Suzuki NEXA portfolio and has been appreciated for its peppy drivability and spacious interiors. We have recognised an increasing preference for feature loaded cars that have SUV-like high seating position and dominant road presence. We are confident that the all new IGNIS with its SUV design and spacious interiors will appeal to the customers.”

Ignis facelift will also receive some interior updates with refreshed upholstery, a new SmartPlay Studio Infotainment system as against the current SmartPlay infotainment system seen in the outgoing model. It will also sport standard safety features of rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder, high speed alert system and ABS and EBD.

To be presented exclusively with a petrol engine this time round, the Ignis will get a BS6 compliant K12M 1.2 liter petrol engine offering 83 PS power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm torque at 4,200 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual and 5 speed automatic transmission.

Like its earlier counterpart, this premium hatchback will go on sale via Nexa dealerships in India from where the company also retails the Ciaz, Baleno, S-Cross and the new XL6. Current Ignis is between Rs 4.74 lakhs and Rs 7.09 lakhs. Expect the new Ignis BS6 to be priced in similar range, with minor price hike. Once launched, it will compete against the the likes of Mahindra KUV100, Hyundai Grand i10, Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid Climber.
