2020 Mercedes Benz GLB, which was officially unveiled at the Shanghai International Auto Show, is set for launch by the end of this year. It is a 7 seater crossover which offers seating capacity for upto 7 persons.

2020 Mercedes Benz GLB receives a boxy profile and a rugged stance. It is seen with an upright front end and sits on 18” alloy wheels. It gets muscular shoulders, a short front and overhang. It also receives unique door arrangement. The doors reach over the side bar and open wider than conventional doors. This new design prevents dirt from accumulating in door openings. There is also a protective cladding fitted to the underbody at the front and rear of the GLB.

Wheelbase is shorter by 1.7” as compared to that seen on the GLC but it is longer by 5.1” as compared to that seen on the GLA. This results in a more spacious cabin and third row seating. The second row seats are in a 40:20:40 split folding style offering easier access to the rear seats. The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLB also gets a five seater format with around 20 cubic feet of cargo area while if second row seats are folded, this increases to 62 cubic feet of extra cargo area.

Interiors are seen with features that would also be seen in a regular Mercedes Benz. These include three rounded central vents, a wide screen cock pit and infotainment via an MBUX multimedia system and a 7” digital instrument cluster along with a 7” touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a long list of safety features present on the 2020 Mercedes Benz GLC with powered driver and passenger seats, keyless entry, rear view camera, dual zone climate control, fog lamps, cruise control and a power lift gate. It also gets active brake assist, adaptive braking, hill start assist, crosswind assist and Mercedes’ ATTENTION ASSIST system.

Engine specifications include the same M260 engine seen powering the A220 sedan. This 2.0 litre turbocharged, 4 cylinder engine offers 221 hp power and 258 lb/ft torque at 1,800-4,000 rpm. This engine is powerful enough to allow for acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 209 kmph. The engine gets mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission with a 4MATIC AWD system is optional. It gets suspension via MacPherson front and multi-link axle rear suspension with compression springs. As an option is adaptive damping allowing the driver to opt between Comfort or Sport via a dynamic select switch.

No pricing of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB has been announced as on date but an estimated price from $35,000 (Rs.24,30,820) is what is expected when the model goes on sale from the end of this year. The Mercedes Benz GLB will have to compete with the Volkswagen Tiguan, Range Rover Discovery Sport and the Audi Q3.
