The new gen 2020 Mercedes GLE sets a benchmark in the full size SUV segment in India. It has been opened for bookings, prior to its launch in Jan 2020. Details were revealed at a dealer-only event at the Mercedes Benz India plant in Pune last week. Team BHP member shares leaked photos from the event.
To be offered in GLE 300d 4MATIC Exclusive and GLE 400d 4MATIC and GLE 450d 4MATIC Elite, they each get several best in segment features. As compared to the outgoing model, the next gen Mercedes GLE sees refreshed styling and new interiors. The basic silhouette remains unchanged but the front bumper sports skid plats, a twin slat grille with the Mercedes Benz logo and new headlamp designs.
The 300d 4MATIC is seen with LED high performance head and tail lamps, 19” 5 spoke alloy wheels, a chrome package with aluminum running boards and an EASY PACK tailgate. Interior also get updates in terms of both comfort and safety features with an all new multi function steering wheel encased in Nappa leather and with touch control buttons.
It also gets Thermatic 4 zone automatic climatic control, a panoramic sunroof, 64 colour ambient lighting, electric sun blinds and infotainment via a MBUX multimedia system with ‘Hey Mercedes’ and navigation system along with as 12” x 2 widescreen cockpit with touch functionality. Safety equipment on the 300d 4MATIC includes 4MATIC permanent with all wheel drive, Dynamic Select with new off road modes, downhill speed regulation, active park assist with reversing camera, blind spot assistance and a total of 7 airbags.
The 400d and 450d 4MATIC get enhanced features with multibeam LED headlamp with ultra range high beam, intelligent headlight control plus and 4MATIC with variable torque distribution. Driver and passenger comfort features include memory package front and electrically adjustable rear seats and anthracite open pore oak wood trims.
Engine specifications on the new Mercedes GLE Class 400d will include a 3.0 liter, 6 cylinder diesel engine offering 330 hp at 3,600 to 4,000 rpm and 700 Nm torque at 1,200-3,000 rpm. The GLE 300d diesel gets a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine making 245 hp power at 4,200 rpm and 500 Nm torque at 1,600-2,400 rpm.
The GLE petrol engine will include a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder unit offering 367 hp power at 5,500-6,100 rpm and 500 Nm torque at 1,600-4,500 rpm. Each of these engines get mated to a 9 speed automatic gearbox. As per leaked details, it is based on the Long WheelBase concept. Expect prices to start in the Rs 70 lakhs range.
