2020 MG Hector diesel BS6 launched – Deliveries to start post lockdown

Prices of the new MG Hector diesel starts from Rs 13.88 lakhs, up by Rs 40k

After upgrading Hector petrol to BS6, MG has rolled out its BS6 diesel variant. BS6 compliant MG Hector diesel is available in four trims, Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. Price range is Rs 13.88 lakh to Rs 17.73 lakh across India, excluding Kerala where it is priced from Rs 13.97 lakh to Rs 17.85 lakh. As compared to BS4 Hector diesel, prices of BS6 variants have increased by 40-45k.

Power and torque output of Hector diesel BS6 is the same as that of the outgoing model. The 2.0-litre Fiat sourced engine generates max power of 170 ps at 3750 rpm and max torque of 350 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm. Engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Hector’s rival Tata Harrier has the same engine and the same power and torque output. The only difference is that Harrier diesel is available with both manual and automatic transmission. Other rivals such as new Creta also come with automatic option for their diesel variants. Unavailability of automatic option for diesel variant can be disadvantageous for Hector.

MG Hector has received tremendous response in the Indian market with more than 50k bookings received since it was launched in June last year. Of these, 21,680 units have already been delivered to customers by March 2020. As compared to earlier months, sales have been relatively less in February and March 2020. This is due to the coronavirus pandemic that has impacted MG’s supply chain from China. MG has assured that production will be resumed at full capacity once the current situation improves.

MG will also launch Hector Plus in the Indian market this year, which will be available in 6/7 seat configuration. Hector Plus was showcased in February at Auto Expo 2020.
