2021 Nissan Rogue (X-Trail) teased ahead of global debut on June 15

Nissan recently shared a video showing a glimpse of 12 upcoming products including the India-bound Magnite subcompact crossover

Japanese automaker Nissan is not going through the best of times with several backlashes across the globe. The company has already gone public about its plans to exit Europe and concentrate on American, Japanese and Chinese markets. In addition to this, Nissan has discontinued its Datsun sub-brand in Indonesia while efforts are made to completely shut down the manufacturing facility in Barcelona. The latter created a major outrage.

However, Nissan remains confident about its global business potential. Owing to this, the company recently uploaded a teaser video dubbed ‘#NissanNext A to Z’ giving a short glimpse of 12 upcoming Nissan products. The list includes the much-awaited Nissan 400Z sportscar as well as the India-bound Magnite subcompact crossover or “compact SUV”.

Nissan has shared a teaser image of the upcoming 2021MY Rogue ‘compact crossover’ or “mid-size SUV” ahead of its official debut on June 15. It is essentially the latest avatar of the second-gen Nissan X-Trail which our market had back in the day. Meanwhile, a convincing set of clear studio shots leaked online recently. The batch of four gives a good idea of its exteriors and interiors that carry major improvements over its former form.

Highlights include a revised ‘V-Motion’ grille, full-LED headlamps, brown/black interiors, larger touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, digital instrument console, wireless charging and 5-spoke wheels. The crossover sports a sharper styling approach compared to its outgoing avatar.

In international markets (especially in America), the 2021MY Nissan Rogue will rival the Toyota RAV-4, Ford Escape and Honda CR-V. Chances of it hitting the Indian market are pretty low since Nissan India has got only two products in its present portfolio: Kicks BS6 and GT-R.

Various sources suggest that it would continue to employ a 2.5-litre NA four-cylinder petrol motor but tuned a bit to produce a higher ~180bhp and 237Nm of torque. There are rumours regarding a hybrid power plant — a range-extender configuration like in the Thai-spec 2020MY Nissan Kicks.

At the moment, the US-spec 2020MY Nissan Rogue is available in three trims, S, SV and SL; with optional ‘Intelligent AWD’ powertrain (front-wheel-biased). Prices start at $25,300. As mentioned before, the US market is of prime importance for Nissan. Instead of being a strategy to cut down expenses or minimise losses, Nissan’s Europe exit is apparently a move to gain “pricing, power (market relevance) and profitability”.
