Toyota recently launched the 2021MY Fortuner (minor facelift) and Fortuner Legender (major facelift) in Thailand
Japanese automaker Toyota has already launched the 2021MY avatar of its popular mid-size 7-seater SUV, Fortuner in Thailand. It comes in two formats: Fortuner (minor facelift) and Fortuner Legender (major facelift). Besides sporting sharper aesthetics and more equipment, the Toyota Fortuner Legender variant comes with a bigger 2.8-litre diesel mill (which does its duty in the Indian-spec BS6 model).
However, the new Thai-spec 2.8 Fortuner is rated at 201bhp @ 3,400rpm and 500Nm @ 1,600-2,800rpm in comparison to the Indian version’s 175bhp @ 3,500rpm and 420/450Nm @ 1.400-2,600rpm (manual/automatic). On the other hand, the lesser 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel motor is good for 148bhp @ 3,400rpm and 400Nm @ 1,600-2,000rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range while AWD is optional in higher trims. The Indian model comes in a 6-speed manual format too.
In a rough conversion, ex-showroom Thailand prices of the 2021MY Toyota Fortuner and Fortuner Legender stand at Rs 31.60 lakh and Rs 37.68 lakh, respectively. Now, Toyota Motor Thailand has introduced the official accessories catalogue of the new Fortuner.
Starting with exteriors, there are a pair of skid plates dubbed ‘bumper decoration kit’ for the front and rear. For either side, running boards or side steps are offered for easier ingress (but mostly for styling). Doors can be fitted with a set of ‘TRD Sportivo’ decals (also available at the rear) and thick beadings with chrome inserts. Speaking about chrome treatment, Toyota Motor Thailand has not gone overboard in visuals like some options offered by its Indian counterpart. Customers can opt chrome add-ons for door handles, fog lamp housing, tail lamps, etc.
The edge protector on doors is a must-have if owners are a bit careless. Meanwhile, the “F O R T U N E R” lettering seems to be ‘inspired’ by a popular SUV marque. Rain guards or side visors, which could mess up a vehicle’s window lines, are quite functional if you need them. To add some ruggedness to the overall aesthetics, wheel arches can be equipped with black cladding (plus mud flaps). Other notable items on the list are blind-spot mirror extenders, stainless steel muffler tip, spare wheel cover, powered tailgate opener and scratch-resistant film for trouble-free loading of luggage.
Interior accessories for the 2021 Toyota Fortuner are pretty straightforward and useful. The list includes front/rear camera recording, IRVM camera display, USB charging port, wireless charging and vinyl floormats.
