Hyundai has discontinued their 2.0 petrol NA from Alcazar and replaced it with new 1.5 liter turbo petrol
The South Korean brand has updated its Creta-based 7-seater premium SUV, Alcazar, for MY2023. This update mainly revolves around the new 1.5L turbo GDi motor, replacing the older naturally aspirated 2.0L petrol engine. There are no changes made to the 1.5L diesel engine and it continues to generate similar numbers.
With this update, 2023 Alcazar becomes the first SUV in Hyundai’s portfolio to get this new 1.5L turbo GDi engine. Other changes include slight design revisions at the front giving it a new look. Deliveries for the same have commenced and first set of owners report improved performance as opposed to previous petrol motor and a slightly uninspiring new grille. Let’s take a look.
New 1.5L Turbo GDi Engine With 160 PS – Peppier Performance
This is the juiciest part of this update. The new 1.5 GDi motor makes 160 PS of power and 253 Nm of torque. This makes it the most performant powertrain choice in Alcazar’s lineup when compared to 160 PS and 190 Nm of 2.0L NA petrol and even 113 bhp and 250 Nm 1.5L diesel.
This new engine from Hyundai is just as powerful and packs more torque than its preceding 2.0L engine even with a 500cc displacement deficit. It is even torquier than 1.5L diesel too, which says a lot. The best part of 2023 Hyundai Alcazar upgrade is that buyers get the most potent engine from the base model itself, priced at Rs. 16,77,500 (ex-sh). Below is the detailed walkaround of the new 2023 Alcazar, shared by Atharva Dhuri.
A 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT are offered with the new 1.5L GDi petrol engine, while earlier 2.0L petrol got a 6-speed TC. Whereas diesel automatic variants still get a 6-speed torque converter. Upcoming Hyundai Creta facelift is also likely to get the same engine options.
2023 Hyundai Alcazar Now Gets A New Fascia
Design changes are immediately visible in its front fascia. Previously there was a cascading effect grille that filled up the upper air dam completely. The new grille gets Venue-like chrome studs spaced equally giving it a parametric effect. it doesn’t fill up the whole air dam and instead, leaves a portion of it left at the bottom without any chrome.
Other than that, there are no changes. Even the halogen bulb indicators are carried forward. First set of owners who took deliveries of 2023 Hyundai Alcazar took to social media and expressed how they’d rather not look at this new grille much. Instead, enjoy the new peppier and fun powertrain.
Features Upgrades With Alcazar?
Features list is vastly kept the same with this update. 2023 Hyundai Alcazar still gets a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25” touchscreen and a digital cockpit, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered seats, ambient lighting, puddle lamps, telematic features, auto-dimming IRVMs, 360-degree camera and a lot more.
It still lacks ADAS suite, which is now offered with Verna. Rivals include Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and even Toyota Innova Hycross. In mid size SUV space, Hyundai Alcazar took 5th place in February 2023. With this MY2023 upgrade, there might be a visible rise in numbers as well.
