The 6th gen Hyundai Verna has been launched in India. It is priced from Rs 10.90 lakh to Rs 17.38 lakhs (ex-sh) and enters a segment wherein it will compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia. As compared to its earlier counterpart, the mid-sized sedan gains in terms of features and engine lineup.

New Verna is presented in EX, S, SX and SX(O) variants. In this post we will detail the features and engine specs as seen on the S trim. Verna S trim rides on 185/65 R15 tyres. Its front end is dominated by a wide LED light bar with DRLs, automatic headlamps with cornering function and a new parametric grille in black chrome finish. The Verna S trim also gets body coloured door handles, shark fin antenna, indicators on ORVMs, and crease lines on the sides while the rear end sports connected tail lamps and chrome finished Verna badging.

Stepping into the cabin of 2023 Verna which is done up in a dual-tone black and beige upholstery. Features include keyless entry with a foldable key, an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and steering mounted audio controls.

It also gets front and rear speakers, tweeters and Bluetooth connectivity but misses out on a Bose premium sound system which is seen on the top spec trims. Verna S also sports a digital instrument cluster, power windows at the front and rear, cooled glove box, height adjustable driver seat and headrests, rear central arm rest with cup holder.

Where safety equipment is concerned, the Verna S trim gets idle stop and go (IGS), headlamp escort function, central locking, impact sensing auto door unlock, speed sensing door lock, keyless entry, rear de-fogger, seat belt pre-tensioners for driver and front passenger and 3 point seat belt for all seats. Hyundai Verna base EX and S trims however, miss out on Hyundai Smartsense Advance Driver Assist System (ADAS) that is only available on the SX(O) and SX(O) Turbo variants.

Verna S Trim – Engine and Transmission

Hyundai Verna commands a sporty road presence. It measures 4,535mm in length, 1,765mm in width and 1,475mm in height with a 2,670mm long wheelbase. It gets a 528 liter boot space, 165mm of ground clearance. The Verna S variant draws power via a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine offering 113 hp power at 6,300 rpm and 143.8 Nm torque at 4,500 rpm with 6 speed manual transmission.

This engine returns ARAI certified mileage of 18.6 km/l. The 1.5 liter turbocharged GDi engine that makes 158 hp power and 253 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual / 7 speed dual clutch transmission is exclusively offered on top two variants only.
