With improved design, range of segment-first features and a powerful turbo petrol motor, new Hyundai Verna will be eying the top spot in mid-size sedan segment
New Hyundai Verna is scheduled for launch on March 21. Bookings are currently open online and at authorized dealerships for a token amount of Rs 25,000. New Verna will continue to rival sedans like Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Maruti Ciaz and VW Virtus. Ahead of its launch, Hyundai has announced the start of production of new Verna at the company plant in Chennai.

The all-new Hyundai VERNA has been designed to enhance body stiffness and improves structural connectivity for optimum distribution of energy flow. The science behind this Superstructure is displayed in the Press Shop at Hyundai’s Manufacturing facility that creates the all-new Hyundai VERNA, using smart inspection techniques such as 3D scanning and infra-red camera inspection to ensure the shell conforms to supreme levels of build quality.
To ensure occupants are cocooned in a cabin of safety the all-new Hyundai VERNA offers structural reinforcement with increased thickness of the side reinforcement and material addition in center & front floor application. Hyundai has revealed the full safety features list on offer with the 2023 Verna.

2023 Verna will come with Hyundai SmartSense – Level 2 ADAS features. New Verna uses automated sensing technology with radars (Front & Rear), sensors and cameras (Front) to detect obstacles on the road and initiating corrective action & warnings, thereby offering comprehensive protection during all climatic and even foggy driving conditions. New Verna performance
All-new Hyundai Verna will have two petrol engine options. There’s the 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine that churns out 113.4 bhp of max power and 144 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or intelligent variable transmission (IVT). Second engine option is likely to draw more attention, as it’s a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit. It generates 158 bhp and 253 Nm, which are best-in-segment performance numbers. The turbo petrol motor has transmission choices of 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT.
New Verna may not have a strong hybrid powertrain option, as available with Honda City. However, its best-in-segment turbo petrol motor can appeal to folks who prioritize sporty performance. Only concern could be fuel efficiency, which has not been revealed yet. For reference, Honda City eHEV has certified mileage of 27.13 kmpl. New-gen Verna packs in both cosmetic touch-ups as well as a new range of hi-tech features. It is expected to be launched in the price range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 19 lakh.
