For a very long time, Yamaha YZF range has been one of the most successful for the brand. It spawns a wide range of motorcycles under its umbrella catering to almost all levels of riders. Be it a novice rider looking for a YZF-R125 or a veteran seeking a YZF-R1, Yamaha has got them covered.

The twin-cylinder quarter-liter offering by Yamaha has been updated for MY2023. With this update, there are no changes done mechanically, or any revisions or additions in terms of componentry and equipment. However, there is a new colour, though and is starkly similar to the one that was offered with Yamaha R3 in 2022.

2023 Yamaha R25 – New Colour Update

With the 2023 Yamaha R25, the company has offered a new colour. This is the same colour that Yamaha R3 got in August 2022 for US market. The base coat is a glossy Phantom Purple colour with subtle Pink elements found on its side body panels below its R25 branding. These subtle pink elements are also found in the front fairing above its headlights.

With this update, 2023 Yamaha R25 has been kept mechanically identical to the 2022 model. Yamaha has only kept changes limited to its colour. In essence, we still get the same 249 cc parallel-twin and liquid-cooled engine with a DOHC setup and a 4V head. This engine is capable of 36 bhp of power at 12,000 RPM and 22.6 Nm at 10,000 RPM.

With this new colourway, front USD forks are painted Black, instead of Gold with the remaining colour options. Design is mostly similar to the R15 V4 that we get in India and the R125 that was recently showcased at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

Should This Be Launched In India?

Even though Yamaha’s extent of its YZF-R lineup in India is limited to just one single-cylinder 150cc offering, we are optimistic. Yamaha’s YZF-R7 and MT-09 have been teased for India and might be shipped any time soon. But Yamaha’s action in the quarter-liter segment is limited to just FZ-25, which is not an awe-inspiring offering, to begin with.

FZ-25 managed to sell just 120 units last month. 2023 Yamaha R25 will be a premium offering. If FZ25 is not generating sales, does it make sense to launch R25 in India? Well, R25 will have a separate target customer base. And considering that people are willing to shell Rs. 1.95 lakh (ex-sh) for an R15, there might be enough takers for a twin-cylinder screamer from Team Blue.
