2024 Kia Sonet facelift will be getting a major refresh, comprising both cometic enhancements and a new range of features
One of the bestselling Kia cars, Sonet was launched in India in August 2020. Its official launch tagline was – The New Badass In Town. Now, it is getting ready to get even more badass. Kia is now readying the facelift version, which will be getting a comprehensive range of updates.
Ahead of its launch, Kia Sonet facelift has been spotted in its home market South Korea. Although heavily camouflaged, there are tell-tale signs of expected changes. 2024 Sonet facelift will continue to rival the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.
2024 Kia Sonet facelift styling updates – New headlamps, tail lights and alloys
Made-in-India Kia Sonet is exported to multiple international markets across Asia, Middle East and South America. The test mule spotted overseas is likely to have been exported to Kia’s headquarters in South Korea. An important evidence to that is the made-in-India Apollo tyres.
Kia Sonet facelift is likely aiming for a sportier profile. Even in its current form, Sonet is among the good-looking compact SUVs. However, a refreshed profile is always welcome, as long as it is done tastefully. Going by Kia’s past record, Sonet facelift is expected to get jazzier and improve its street presence.
Sonet facelift test mule provides glimpses of a multitude of potential changes. The SUV seems to have a new grille in piano black finish. Headlamps are sharper and fog lamp housing seems to have increased in size. The bumper looks new as well. There appears to be a vertically positioned lighting element, placed between the headlamps and fog lamps. It could be LED DRLs or turn indicators.
Core silhouette of Sonet facelift appears largely the same as the current model. However, there could be some changes to the door panelling and body cladding. Alloy wheel design appears to be same, but comes in a sportier dual-tone finish. Single pane sunroof continues to be on offer as on the current model.
At rear, new Sonet facelift seems to be using new L-type tail lamps. These seem familiar to the tail lamps seen with Seltos facelift. There could be other features that could be borrowed from upcoming Seltos facelift. For example, there are possibilities of connected LED units and dynamic turn indicators. Sonet facelift can be seen using a new tailgate that has a relatively flatter profile.
Kia Sonet facelift powertrain options likely to remain same
There is unlikely to be any changes to powertrain options for Kia Sonet facelift. The current model has engine options of a 1.2-litre MPI petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel motor. The 1.2-litre petrol engine churns out 83 PS of max power and 115 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Sonet’s turbo petrol unit makes 120 PS and 172 Nm. Transmission choices include 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT. The diesel unit makes 116 PS and 250 Nm. It is mated to 6 iMT or 6AT. Prices of the 2024 Sonet facelift will remain in the same range as current Sonet, which is about Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, ex-sh.
