One of the most popular sub-4-meter compact SUVs in the country, Tata Nexon is scheduled to get its facelift version. A comprehensive range of updates are planned, which can help Nexon to extend its lead over rivals. While an earlier launch timeline was being speculated for early 2024, Nexon facelift could actually debut around June-July this year.

In its current form, Nexon has transmission choices of 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT for both the 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Based on interactions with Nexon facelift test engineers, it has been revealed that the SUV could get DCT. This is likely to replace the existing AMT unit. It is possible that the 6-speed DCA from Altroz could be borrowed for Nexon facelift.

Overall drive dynamics are likely to be improved with the DCT transmission. Nexon facelift is also expected to get the new 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor that generates 125 PS of max power and 225 Nm of peak torque. The existing 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit makes 120 PS and 170 Nm. Clearly, there’s a significant gain in torque output. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit will be carried forward. It makes 115 PS and 260 Nm.

It is being speculated that Nexon facelift could get a different name. It is not a far-fetched possibility, as Nexon facelift packs in enough updates to justify a new name. A relevant example is how Toyota Innova Crysta has evolved into the hybrid version named Innova HyCross. A similar approach could be used for Nexon facelift, owing to its major updates and extended equipment list.

Nexon facelift test mules have revealed a new design language for the SUV. It appears to be on the same lines as that of upcoming Tata cars such as Curvv and Sierra EV. Some of the key highlights include bumper mounted headlights, full-width LED light bar, refreshed grille and new set of alloy wheels. Tail lamps are likely to be revised with X-shaped lighting elements in place of the Y-shaped design seen with current model.

Nexon facelift features to get upgraded – More new tech than ever before

Inside, possibilities for Nexon facelift include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new 7-inch digital instrument TFT cluster, refreshed upholstery and 6-airbags. Top-spec variants could be equipped with ADAS. In that case, Nexon will become the first in segment to have ADAS.

Nexon is already a well-equipped SUV with features such as auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, ventilated front seats, voice commands, electric sunroof, cooled glove box and iRA connectivity platform. These will be carried forward with the facelift variant.

Nexon competes with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300. With the updates, Nexon facelift is expected to get costlier. Nexon current model is available at a starting price of Rs 7.79 lakh, ex-sh.
