Updated Honda Jazz seems better equipped to deal with intensifying competition from entry-level Chinese EVs
Honda Jazz is sold across multiple markets such as China, Japan, Europe, New Zealand and South Africa. In some markets it is sold as the Fit, and not Jazz. For the Chinese market, Honda has introduced an updated version with contemporary design and new features. Honda Jazz facelift is aimed at tackling the dominance of entry-level Chinese EVs such as Wuling Bingo, BYD Seagull and Geely Xingyuan. Let’s check out more details on these developments.
2026 Honda Jazz Facelift – What’s new?
In China, the Honda Jazz has two versions. One is the GAC Honda Fit and the other is the Dongfeng Honda Life, manufactured by GAC and Dongfeng, respectively. The recently introduced facelift is for the GAC Honda Fit. Last year in April, exterior images of the facelifted Honda Fit were revealed via China’s MIIT filings.
One can notice a refreshed front fascia, featuring a new grille, sharper split LED headlamps and a prominent bumper with slatted elements for the lower intake. The updated design seems familiar to that of Toyota’s conventional design approach. Apart from the changes at the front, the overall design remains largely the same.
Honda Fit facelift has circular wheel arches, 15-inch wheels, body-coloured door handles, dual-tone ORVMs, blacked-out B-pillars and a tapering roofline. At the rear, the hatch has a shark fin antenna, rear wiper, ‘FIT’ badging, 3D-style tail lamps and a conventional-looking bumper. Honda has introduced three new colour options with the Fit facelift – Dynamic Blue, Fiery Yellow and Starry Night White.
Dimensionally, the Honda Fit facelift has gained a few centimetres in length. As compared to 4,110 mm earlier, the facelift measures 4,169 mm in length. However, the wheelbase is the same as earlier at 2,530 mm. It is not known if the increased size has resulted in any meaningful difference in the interior space.
Interiors, equipment list
There are no major changes to the interiors of the Honda Fit facelift. However, there are some exceptions such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The hatch has fabric seats and a simple two-speaker sound system. Being an entry-level offering, the Honda Fit does not get any advanced driver assistance features. It remains to be seen if Honda’s versatile Magic Seats will be available with the Fit facelift.
Powering the Honda Fit is the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine as available earlier. It generates 122 hp and 145 Nm of torque and is paired with a CVT transmission. While the Honda Fit is offered with a hybrid powertrain in markets such as Japan and Europe, there is no such option in China.
Pricing, production
GAC Honda Fit facelift is competitively priced, starting at CNY 66,800 (Rs 8.67 lakh). This is almost CNY 31,000 (Rs 4 lakh) cheaper than the Dongfeng Honda Life. It is not certain if the Dongfeng Honda Life will be receiving a similar set of updates. With its affordable pricing, Honda Fit facelift has improved competitiveness against popular entry-level EVs in China.
In recent times, Honda Fit sales have been hit hard by the growing preference for entry-level EVs. Sales had touched zero units in November. It explains why the facelift is being offered at a heavily discounted pricing. Also, the facelift will have a limited production run of 3,000 units.
In India, the Honda Jazz (Fit) was one of the popular options in the sub-4-metre segment. However, it was discontinued due to stricter emission norms and availability of better-equipped rivals. It is unlikely that Honda Jazz will be relaunched in India.
