Hyundai Motor India seems to be prepping a new SUV for India to rival the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. It will be positioned above Exter and below Venue in their Indian lineup. Fronx has emerged as a great product where sales numbers are concerned. Hyundai seems to be eyeing some of this pie and probably fill the gap where i20 Active used to be in the past.
The first-ever spy shots of this vehicle testing in India surfaced on the internet some time ago. The same vehicle now seems to spotted testing in South Korea as well. When launched, it might be launched with Bayon name and it might emerge as a high volume generator for Hyundai in the B Segment. Let’s take a closer look.
2026 Hyundai Bayon Crossover SUV Spied
When the first set of spy shots of this vehicle surfaced testing in India, initial speculations were that it could be an Exter facelift. Now, the spy shots of this vehicle testing in South Korea gives us more details of this upcoming SUV. For starters, we can see the codename of this vehicle with these spy shots – BC4i CUV.
Hyundai uses the BC3 codename for current Bayon CUV. BC4i CUV is likely to be the codename used for 2nd Gen Bayon which is spied in South Korea and also in India. The current Bayon on sale globally measures 4,180 mm in length, 1,775 mm in width, around 1,500 mm in height and a 2,580 mm long wheelbase.
When launched in India, there is a possibility that Hyundai might bring it under sub 4m length constraint for the all important B Segment tax benefits. Also, Hyundai is likely to position it as an SUV in India, rather a CUV. Primary rival of this upcoming vehicle might be Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which is doing quite well, where sales are concerned.
What to expect?
Where design is concerned, 2026 Hyundai Bayon crossover CUV will get a boxy silhouette which will establish continuity within Hyundai’s current range of SUVs. LED DRLs at the front and tail light LED signature look like they’re inspired from other Hyundai SUVs. The wheel design spied in South Korea was different to the one spied in India.
Since it is a next generation model when compared to the current BC3, we can expect an all-new dashboard along with an improved features and equipment list. Features could include all-wheel disc brake, Level-2 ADAS, a sunroof, auto climate control, large infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents and more.
Where powertrains are concerned, 2026 Hyundai Bayon crossover CUV in India might come equipped with both 1.2L NA Petrol and a 1.0L Turbo Petrol engine options. In some markets, Hyundai offers a mild-hybrid version of 1.0L Turbo and also a 1.2L Turbo Petrol option. Launch could happen around 2026 festive season and pricing might be below that of Venue.
