Among the 4 new concepts showcased at the Freedom NU event in August 2025, the Vision S is expected to be launched first

Mahindra is readying its new range of SUVs based on the all-new multi energy, modular platform named NU IQ. The concept versions, Vision S, Vision T, Vision X and Vision SXT, were unveiled earlier this year in August. Road tests have commenced for the Vision S, which is expected to be positioned as a baby Scorpio. Latest spy shots reveal the front, side and rear profile of the Vision S. Let’s take a closer look.

Mahindra Vision S – Design and features

One can notice a boxy profile, an upright front fascia and a flat bonnet. The test mule has round headlamps and vertically-stacked slatted grille design. It is likely that LED DRLs are integrated with the headlamps, something similar to that of Thar Roxx. A radar module can be seen on the lower grille, indicating a range of ADAS features.

Fog lamp housings appear to be rectangular units, although not exactly clear due to the camouflage. Another aspect that instantly gets one’s attention is the high ground clearance of the SUV. Making it possible are the large wheels, high-profile tyres and possibly long-travel suspension.

Mahindra Vision S is expected to get an advanced suspension setup, comprising 5-link rear independent suspension. These features will ensure smooth, comfortable rides, even across rough patches and uneven surfaces. Side profile also reveals the presence of flared wheel arches in polygonal format, flat door panels, flush door handles, a flat roof and rectangular rear quarter glass.

With the high ground clearance and glass surfaces all around, users can expect a commanding view of the outside world. At the rear, the SUV appears to have vertically-stacked rectangular tail lamps. Other highlights include a flat rear windscreen and a simple design for the bumper. The spare wheel on the tailgate enhances the SUV’s sporty presence.

Interiors, equipment list

In earlier spy shots, we had seen a glimpse of the interiors of the production version of Mahindra Vision S SUV. One of the standout features is a large panoramic sunroof. Other highlights include dual screens, likely 12.3-inch units. The dashboard has futuristic vibes, with elegantly positioned physical buttons and a distinctive design for the AC vents.

Vision S is equipped with a new three-spoke, dual-tone steering wheel. A range of advanced features will be available such as seat heating, hill descent control, traction control, differential lock / off-road control and drive mode selector / terrain mode. The SUV is expected to get dual-zone climate control with the top variants. Soft-touch materials are likely to be used across the dashboard and door trim. Vision S will ensure optimal comfort with its flat-floor design, the first-of-its-kind for an ICE SUV.

Powertrain details for Mahindra Vision S have not been revealed. It is expected that the SUV will be initially launched with ICE engines, which could include a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel. Other options like hybrid and fully electric can be considered at a later date.

Will Rival New Tata Sierra

With its boxy silhouette, high ground clearance, modern cabin layout and a clear focus on lifestyle-SUV appeal, the Mahindra Vision S is shaping up to be much more than just a compact off-roader. Positioned as a rugged yet premium mid-size SUV, it mirrors many of the traits that have made the all-new Tata Sierra such a highly anticipated model. If Mahindra manages to retain the concept’s design intent, feature richness and ride sophistication in the production version, the Vision S could emerge as a strong and credible rival to the Tata Sierra, setting up an interesting new rivalry in the lifestyle mid-SUV space when both models hit the market.
