24 Hours of Le Mans scheduled for 16th – 17th June 2012: Castrol Edge technical partner for Audi
Saturday June 16th 2012 is marked for 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. Anticipation is rising and auto enthusiasts are looking forward to the weekend with hope and optimism as they will get to see their favorite teams participate in what is looked upon as the oldest active sports car races in endurance racing ever since 1923 since when it has been held annually at Le Mans, France. This year Castrol Edge steps in as technical partner for Audi at Le Mans.
Practice sessions are in progress and four Audi R18 have ended days practice in 1,2,3,4 order with quickest lap times closely followed by two Toyota petrol hybrids. But here it is not the fastest car that will win but the one that can run for 24 hours without sustaining any sort of mechanical damage. Endurance of the drivers too are tested to the limits as each driver spends two hours behind the wheel before stopping at the pits for the other driver to take over. Today it has become binding for there to be three drivers in each competing vehicle.
The 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans will commence at 9.00 am ET on Saturday June 16, 2012 at the Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France. It will conclude on June 17th 2012 at 9.00 am ET.
This year there will be one eager spectator at the Le Mans venue. Indian Bollywood hero, Abhishek Bachchan has already left for the racing event and will be fulfilling his lifelong passion to be present at this 80 year old annual racing event. He has been keen to attend these events for some time now but has only just managed to get round to it. Bachchan Jr. has just finished shooting for his upcoming film Bol Bachchan so he has accorded himself some time out to attend the exclusive racing event.

Endurance racing is one of the most challenging environments in motorsport. Working together in such tough conditions allows Audi and Castrol to utilise each others strengths in innovation to reach new levels of performance. Castrol EDGE Fluid Strength Technology™ used in the R18 ultra engines and in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro engines has been tested under simulated race conditions for 48 hours – double the distance of Le Mans.
Castrol EDGE products are tested beyond their limit. Results have shown Castrol EDGE to be up to 40% stronger* than a leading competitor. Its unique adaptive strength makes it the perfect technology to deal with the extreme demands of long distance racing.
The partnership between Castrol and Audi stretches beyond the realm of motorsport. Castrol EDGE is the only lubricant range recommended by Audi for use in its road vehicles. This means that the innovations and product benefits developed in the motorsport arena can be enjoyed by millions of Audi drivers every day.
