Former chairman of a Pune society damages 44 two wheelers in 1 night

Vilas Chavan, former chairman of Nirmal Township, Kale Padal, Hadapsar, Pune allegedly went on a rampage in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He ripped open the seat covers of a total of 44 two-wheelers parked in the society parking area and pulled out the cushioning.

The incident came to light when Pramod Dalvi, another resident of the society, was called away in an emergency when he had to go and help a friend whose car had broken down.

On entry into the parking area he noticed lights were off but he managed to find his way to his vehicle with the aid of the light from his mobile. Finding his seat cover torn to shreds he put on the parking lights and to his utter amazement found not only his but several other bikes also in the same condition. He proceeded to call up all the residents about this act of vandalism but due to the lateness of the hour only a few turned up to survey the damage.

Chavan had been removed from his position as society Chairman due to his criminal background. The society had received complaints about his behavior and residents state that he had caused much damage to society property in the past. He had broken mirrors of bikes and damaged drainage pipes.

Chavan also has a criminal record of theft and property damage and has been previously externed by the police. On December 13, 2015, Chavan was captured on CCTV camera stealing the cover of resident Deepali More’s bike and trying to break the handle. Local police have detained Chavan and are investigating the case further.
