Coming in with refined exteriors and luxurious interiors, the new 2014 BMW 5 Series receives a new front bumper design and contoured lines have been added to its kidney grille. The model also receives several matte silver accents while a silver strip is seen across its boot. New headlamp and tail lamp fixtures also add to its appeal while the company offers various options where exterior color scheme and alloy wheel designs are concerned.
Interiors at packed with BMW luxuries and sport some design modifications where control display unit, added storage compartments and cup holders are concerned. As far as engine options are concerned, the new 5er is offered in India with only diesel engines. These are 2.0l and 3.0l diesel engines.
The BMW 520d Modern and 520d Luxury are powered by 2.0l engine offering 184 hp and 380 Nm torque. They feature 8 speed automatic transmission. This engine does a 0-100 kmph in 7.9 seconds and gives a top speed of 231 kmph. 525d Luxury Plus also features a 2.0l diesel heart, but this one delivers 218 hp and 450 Nm torque and has a 8 speed sport automatic transmission. This one does a top speed of 243 kmph, and does 0-100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds. Top of the line, 530d M Sport features 3.0l diesel engine delivering 258 hp and 540 Nm torque. 0-100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and top speed of 250 kmph.
Apart from the techspecs, the new 5 Series is also feature-rich. For safety, you have, Attention Assist, Active Headrests, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Side impact protection, warning triangle with first aid. Driving modes include ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ (latter only in 525d Luxury Plus and 530d M Sport).
BMW EfficientDynamics improves driving dynamics and reduces fuel consumption. This is achieved by Intelligent Lightweight construction, Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start-Stop function, 50-50 weight distribution, 0.25 drag coefficient, and many such technologies. BMW ConnectedDrive offers multifunction instrument display of 25.9 cm with touchscreen, integrated hard drive, GPS, DVD drive, next gen BMW iDrive (their own on-board driver information system), Harmon Kardon Surround sound system, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Apart from this, BMW India gives Adaptive LED headlamps, iDrive 24×7 roadside assistance & BMW Secure Advanced (warranty on the run flat tyres, alloys, hydrostatic lock & loss of key) as standard with the new 5 Series.
