PM Modi distributes 5,100 e-rickshaws, OLA e-rickshaw launched

5,100 e-rickshaws were distributed by the Prime Minister under the Mudra Yojna Scheme in Noida.

An initiative to promote entrepreneurship among women, transgenders, SC and ST communities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over a total of 5,100 e-rickshaws at the Bhartiya Micro Credit (BMC) programme. The initiative was a part of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna scheme.

These new owners also received insurance cover from Pradhan Matri Jan Dhan Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana scheme besides 8 other schemes of Narendra Modi government.

It was also at this event that the PM launched the “Start up India Stand up India” initiative. This initiative offers bank loans from INR 10 lakhs to INR 1 crore to SC, ST and women borrowers for special Greenfield enterprises in the non-farm sectors.

The e-rickshaws can be availed of by passengers in the Delhi NCR region and can be booked via the Ola mobile app. Payments can be made via cash / Freecharge platform. PM Modi is the frst customer of the new Ola e-rickshaw service.

The e-rickshaw batteries can be charged at various charging stations being set up by Bhartiya Micro Credit societies while service centers will also be set up.

These e-rickshaws will serve as last mile transportation across Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad while in the future it will make its way to smaller towns and tier III cities across the country. Each e-rickshaw operator will be given a smartphone to connect to the Ola app and reach out to customers while a base fee will commence at INR 8.
