7th Round of GRAND-AM Rolex series gets underway at Road America: Chip Ganassi Racing secures win

Road America played host to the 7th Round of Rolex GRAND-AM Sports car Series. Rolex Sports Car Series is a premier series run by Grand America Road Racing Association ever since 2000. Rolex took over as series sponsors in 2002 and ever since then these events have been looked upon by the sporting fraternity with expectation and anticipation.

The event spans across a 4.048 mile stretch containing 14 turn tracks with a number of straights and turns and will see some high speed performance and high speed braking. This year round APR Motorsports and Audi R8 GRAND-AM will be taking part in the challenge.

Dion von Moltke participated at the Audi R8 GRAND-AM and is confident of his performance and ability to handle the machine across this high speed track. He has tackled the track previously during his participation at the Skip Barber Racing School series. Chip Ganassi Racing secured their first victory of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season last Saturday at Road America.

Road America will host round 7 of the Rolex GRAND-AM Sports Car Series. The 4.048-mile, 14-turn track configuration includes long straights, swooping turns, high braking, and flat out straightaway speed. The layout is considered to be a perfect example of a true road course and consequently has never been altered.

APR Motorsport and the Audi R8 GRAND-AM are up for the challenge. After a minor setback at Mid-Ohio, the team will focus on the improvements that placed them fourth in qualifying in Detroit. The race car has plenty of potential and power that will suit the Road America track well.

“Racing at Road America brings me a lot of great racing memories. I’m excited to return to a track with so much history,” said von Moltke, race car driver for the #51 APR Motorsport Audi R8 GRAND-AM. “I drove here often in the Skip Barber Racing School series where I learned the fundamentals of driving race cars. I’m looking forward to showing off the Audi R8 V10 engine and what it can do at Road America!”
