A Sandeep Kumar has won Race two or Round Four at JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 which was held yesterday at MMRT, Chennai. He finished the race in a total of 20:42:175 seconds while Saurav Bandopadhay finished in 3.848 seconds just behind him, while Diego Duez finished in 5.344 seconds behind Saurav. Ameya Walavalkar was the winner ahead of A Sandeep Kumar.
Sandeep was ecstatic at his victory and dedicated his win to Volkswagen Motorsport and all the technicians who assisted him along the way to his winning position. He had a good start specially in the first two laps and maintained his position and consistency to the end. Following the top three, it was Rahil Noorani who came in fourth position followed by Prashanth Tharani Singh in fifth place. Sandeep was overjoyed at having succeeded ahead of Ameya Walavalkar who finished in sixth place.
Defeating him in the overall championship was what contributed to an immense sense of success for Sandeep. Ameya however continues to lead the championship with 276 points followed by Sandeep at 249 points and Avdumber Hede in third place with 213 points. Rahil Noorani is on 207 points while Mihir Dharkar is on 201 points.

A. Sandeep Kumar took his maiden Polo R Cup victory in Race Two of Round Four of the JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 at the MMRT in Chennai today. He completed the entire race in total time of 20:42.175 seconds. Saurav Bandyopadhay finished 3.848 seconds behind the leader and Diego Duez finished 5.344 seconds off Saurav.
Sandeep started on pole for the reverse grid Race Two and comfortably led from start to finish. Saurav and Diego started well but could not get close enough to race winner Sandeep. Behind the top three, Rahil Noorani finished in fourth position ahead of Prashanth Tharani Singh, Race One winner Ameya Walawalkar and Avdumber Hede. Sandeep’s win has helped him close in on Championship Leader Ameya, and is just 26 points behind.
Sandeep said “I would like to dedicate my first win to Volkswagen Motorsport and especially the technicians without whom this would have not been possible. I had a good start, pushed for 2 laps and once I had a comfortable lead, tried to be consistent till the end. With Ameya finishing in sixth place, I have closed on him in the overall championship, which is great.”
First time podium winner Saurav who finished second said, “It was a fun race and I am very happy to finish on the podium. The race was quite straight forward but I was not fast enough to catch Sandeep. The tyres started to give in late in the race but luckily I had enough in hand to keep Diego behind.”
Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Motorsport, Volkswagen India said, “The reverse grid has given young and new drivers a great opportunity to be on the podium and I am hoping we will see more new faces in the races to come. I am also very happy to see another weekend of clean racing by all the drivers. Credit goes to the driver coaches who have patiently taken these young drivers through a rigorous training programme to ensure we have clean and competitive racing.”
Ameya continues to lead the championship with 276 points, followed by Race Two winner Sandeep, who is on 249 points. Avdumber Hede is third in the championship with 213 points followed by Rahil Noorani on 207 points and Mihir Dharkar on 201 points.
