Abarth, a subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, was founded in 1949. With a colourful racing history, Abarth is all set to officially enter India with Abarth 595 Competizione.
In India, new Abarth 595 Competizione will be offered with a 1.4 liter T-Jet motor offering 158bhp power at 5,500 rpm and 230 Nm torque at 3,000 rpm, mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.
To be seen with a host of equipment, Abarth 595 Competizione will boast of 17” titanium finished alloy wheels, Brembo brakes with red calipers and leather encased steering wheel. It will also receive Sabelt seats, xenon head lamps and rear parking sensors. Interiors will sport leather seats and a six speaker audio system while an electrically operated glass sun roof will also be a part of its makeup.
Already available in the UK, where it is priced from £19,890 (INR 19,69,420) for the hatchback variant and £21,890 (INR 21,68,539) for the convertible. In India, it will be only offered as a hatchback, and price is expected to be in the INR 25-30 lakh segment.
Already showcased in India, Abarth 595 Competizione has now been officially teased on Fiat India’s website, indicating launch is near. Though launch date is not revealed, it is safe to expect the car to be launched by July 2015. Once launched, Abarth will be sold and serviced at existing Fiat India dealerships only, no separate dealerships for Abarth in India.
Following the launch of Abarth 595 Competizione, Fiat India plans to introduce the 1.4l T-Jet variants of Punto and Avventura. After that, they also have plans to introduce the Jeep brand with Grand Cherokee launch later this year.
