Air Force officer killed by speeding Audi Q7, driver still not in jail (Video update)

The accident occurred at 6.30 am on Wednesday morning at Red Road when a brand new white coloured Audi Q7 broke through the two layer security cordon and mowed down Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud. The corporal was rushed to the Eastern Command Hospital in Alipore where he was declared dead on arrival.

What is surprising that in spite of 100 policemen on duty in the vicinity at that time of the morning, the driver of the Audi Q7 not only managed to break-into a no vehicle zone and kill an IAF officer, but also managed to get out of there scot-free.

Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud (21) was drill instructor of IAF contingent that is slated to take part in Republic Day parade in Kolkata on the 26th of January 2016. The Audi driver ignored the security cordon laid, while the incident has sent shock waves across all security agencies who consider this a major breach in security.

The INR 76 lakh Audi Q7 in question in question is registered in the name of Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd located at 16, Burman Street in North Kolkata. The company is headed by Ambia and Sambia Sohrab, sons of Md Sohrab, President of the Fruit Merchants’ Association in Kolkata. Md Sohran was also a RJD MLA till 2011. The car was allegedly being driven by Ambia at the time of accident.

The Audi broke across the barricade, knocked down the corporal and sped away. It was noted to swerve and smash into the barricade while the driver quickly alighted and sped away even before security personnel could arrive at the spot. The driver broke through three rings of security spanned across Red Road. He also had the time to spray the interiors of the car with perfume and remove the temporary number plates prior to fleeing the spot.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purkayastha arrived at the scene of the accident to take stock while investigations are on and CCTV footage is being assessed to lookout for the accused driver.
