After revealing the trophy for winner of 2013 Airtel Indian Formula One Grand Prix yesterday, it is now time to see the costume of the grid girls, which too is now revealed. Just like previous two editions, this year too the color of costumes will remain red. Designed by Mandira Wirk, the fashion stylist has kept the design based on two words, “Express Yourself”, which is also the tag line of Airtel, India’s largest cellular network provider.
Speaking about her new design, Mandira says that as the world of F1 is synonymous with fashion, she has tried to give her best in these costumes, to make the grid girls stand out from the crowd on the Race Day at Buddh International Circuit.
Apart from this, it is confirmed that for the first time in the history of Indian F1, there will be only Indian marshals. “We have come into F1 late but we are improving rapidly. Initially, the FIA (world governing body of motorsports) had advised us to take outside help for three years but they are now satisfied with the personnel we have in India. It is a huge confidence booster for us and it doesn’t mean we are going to get complacent,” Prabha Shankar, co-founder of Indian Motorsport Marshals Club (IMMC) and member of the FIA Commission, told IANS at BIC.
There was also a increase noted in the number of applicants for the job of a marshal at the 2013 Indian Grand Prix. In 2011, there were 2,000 applicants, of which 600 were selected. In 2012, there were 4,800 applicants of which 650 were selected, and this year, there were 7,000 applicants, of which 650 were selected. On previous two occassions, Indian GP had received help from outside to train their own marshals. But this time, it will be only Indian marshals who will be taking care if the 2013 Indian Grand Prix.
