2019 Tata 45X hatchback spied in detail ahead of launch

While the current buzz revolving around Tata Motors has everyone awaiting the Harrier launch, and with it the price tag at which it’s going to be available. A Twitter thread points to a price range of Rs 16 lakhs to Rs 21 lakhs. And while Tata Harrier dominates our news feeds, Tata 45X spyshots are regularly peaking our attention.

The latest spy shots of Tata 45X were shared by automotive enthusiast Diptimaya Bhuyan on Facebook Group Rushlane Spylane. These new images give a closer look at the car’s exterior design, interior photos as well as alloy wheels.

Tata 45X draws inspiration from the concept shown at 2018 Auto Expo and has carried forward the coupe-type sloping roof but has aptly toned down on bits that would help the car be a practical everyday car.

Built on the new Advanced Modular Platform (AMP), also referred to as X4 platform internally, Tata 45X’ tailgate design reminds one of Harrier. The tail light cluster and piano black plaque look all too familiar. The connected taillamps, large front frille, and sleek headlamps all bring forth a hint of Tata. Tata 45X interiors feature a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Expected to feature Nexon’s 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, and turbocharged 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine with AT and MT options, Tata 45X launch is likely to be scheduled in the latter half of 2019. In keeping with current progression of powertrain and transmission requirements, a mild hybrid system for enhanced efficiency could be introduced.

Tata 45X, a premium hatchback is built on Tata Motors’ Alpha platform and uses the auto manufacturer’s Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. Harrier too relies on the same philosophy. Given that, both cars will rely on design inspirations / similarities. Tata’s new design language will for now be an important quotient of future Tata cars.

On the safety front, 45X features dual front airbags, advanced drive mode selection, start/stop button, and parking assist. ABS and EBD will be offered as standard. Categorised as a premium hatchback, it will take on Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Both, Baleno and i20 are going to get facelift options in 2019. It will be priced in the Rs 6-9 lakh range.
